Hey, welcome to my profile :) I am a musician interested in a wide variety of musical genres, and I am obsessed with Star Wars. Because of this rare mix of interests, and some IT skills, I have been able to contribute sound effects, music and unit voice overs for a variety of mods over the last couple of years. I am mostly retired now, but still willing to help out with small audio tasks - PM me. May the force be with you :)

Old Republic at War

Mod review

Congratulations on a successful release G :)

Good:
There are some excellent things about this mod that really make it stand out. Most notably, the graphics department has been totally overhauled and I love the result. The moving turrets are stunning to watch, particularly on the larger ships. Also, the AI is, um, a nice challenge!!! (It comfortably defeated me on "Easy", which is certainly not something that happens in any other mod I've played!) it is very good to know that I am not going to get bored any time soon. I love all the new units, and some of the new sound effects, for example the mass drivers, are also top quality.

Could be improved:
One thing that stood out to me from the start is the menu screens. Now I appreciate that a lot of effort has been put into this, but I honestly don't think it was necessary to change some of the headings in the menu itself - I preferred them how they were. Also, the music doesn't quite work with the mod, and isn't Star-Warsy enough. It does not always seem to fit the scenario either - some "calm" music before battles (in search of something better to call them) often could be battle music, and I find this a tad irritating as a musician.

Also, I would have liked some GC, but that isn't something that I'm particularly annoyed with at all, some variety from the "space skirmish" mode would have been good, that is all!

Yoda.

Disclaimer: Anyone may disagree with my review of this mod, and I appreciate that not everyone looks for the same things as I do, but I reserve the right to stand by my judgement.

Republic at War

Mod review

This is a mod and a half... I gave 1.1 a 9 out of 10 because of balancing issues, but now they've been sorted in 1.1.5, I feel obliged to give a 10 out of 10. The graphics, audio, units and games modes are all completely stunning.

My only two niggles as of now, the Light Republic Assault Cruiser (the Red one) seems to have lost next to all its missiles since 1.1, and I miss them :/, and the providence model seems a bit... square...

But this is nowhere near enough to steal its deserving 10 from me :)

Empire at War Expanded: Thrawn's Revenge

Early access mod review

A thouroughly thought through mod with a plethera of canonical units to choose from. Planet list is also immense. The two reasons why it is not a 10 are the sound files and the Special abilities. Firstly, I can't find any purpose-made sound files for units: X85s seem to think that they're T4-Bs, all the Sith lords sound identical to either Palpatine or Vader, and all of the Imperial fighters have the same TIE fighter voice. For me, this is very frustrating. Secondly, special abilities seem to have been removed from many of the ships that featured in FoC. Most notably, the tractor beam has been taken off most of the star destroyers. In addition, it would be nice to see the Super Star destroyers retain their critical system hardpoints, such as engines, shield generators and hangars to make them slightly more vulnerable and put the player on edge about them. However, overall the mod is still stunning. A mention must go to the completely redone visual effects, which are stunning.
