Description

Happy Independence Day. Today marks the 239th anniversary of America's independence.

In that time this nation has grown greatly. Become the greatest superpower the world has ever known. Started with 13 colonies and eventually ended up with over 50 states including Hawaii and Alaska. Seen the world change greatly in that time, many inventions and innovations. We've also been through many crisis and both World Wars.

But really what is America? A country isn't a rock, it's not a extension of oneself. But rather it's what it stands for, even when standing for something is the most difficult. To the point we even had a civil war over it.

The true America is an idea.

That said, you can't kill an idea. You can't shoot it, you can't cut it up, you can't nuke it, you can't beat it into submission. It isn't exclusive either, it's not for a select few. Rather it's for all who are willing. Those who are ready to prove something, ready to stand up and live their dream, do their part. It's for those with determination. There's a reason they call America the land of the free and the home of the brave.

I'm proud to be an American. Not just because our democracy or military. But because of our resolve, our drive to lead, even when the rest of the world resented that.

Sure, times are tough in America today, as well as the world. But what a real citizen believes in isn't just a flag. It's the idea behind that flag. Even if America weren't here tomorrow, it's idea would still live on long after all here are dead and gone. And despite what some would have you believe, politics and bigotry could never change that.

There are those out there who believe patriotism is a virtue of the viscous. Ive learned differently. It's one who's willing to live for and even if necessary give their life for that idea. That's a real patriot in my book. You don't have to be a flag waving and starry eyed individual to be that.

God Bless America.
