Those are Kontakt-1. They aren't really that effective.

I like how beaten up this tank looks, and still running.
ineffective or not, these tanks can really take anti-tank missiles.

You know that Leo-2 and Abrams are 3e generation tanks right or known as post-cold war tanks ? T-72 are 2e generation tanks of cold war era. And its ERA is Kontakt-1 a 2e gen. ERA armor. If you want to compare the 2 vehicles you just mentioned go with T-90A with Kontakt-5 3e gen. ERA and T-90MS with Relikt 4e gen. ERA.

On another note: Leo-2 don't have ATGM capabalities or APS for first precise strike and or active protection. Saying that Leo-2 is superior in God all aspects is really the most stupidest propaganda schutzviller since Gelen... This is not WW2 anymore. This is the 21e century !

It would seem the persistent ignorance about the UN law requiring Russia to build exports to extremely low standards permeates everyone's opinion on the T72's protection and general capabilities. Let alone the constant comparison of the technological failure gaggle **** M1 series and its more properly designed yet still falling short cousin the Leopard 2 family.

I know about this... In Venezuela (for instance), due to the weapon embargo imposed by the U.S., Russia only sold to Ven. T-72AVs, altought in the real arms contract Russia was suppose to sell them the T-90S export (with AT-11 ATGMs) and prob. some BMPT as well.
