Those are Kontakt-1. They aren't really that effective.
worst is to plate only half a tank with it,damn those budget cuts...
I like how beaten up this tank looks, and still running.
ineffective or not, these tanks can really take anti-tank missiles.
only if it hits from the front, other then that, there all around protection is very poor.

lol and what T-72 isn't old? the 72AV has ERA armor i'll give it that but not everywhere. like i said all around protection is very poor, unlike western tanks like the leo2 and M1
You know that Leo-2 and Abrams are 3e generation tanks right or known as post-cold war tanks ? T-72 are 2e generation tanks of cold war era. And its ERA is Kontakt-1 a 2e gen. ERA armor. If you want to compare the 2 vehicles you just mentioned go with T-90A with Kontakt-5 3e gen. ERA and T-90MS with Relikt 4e gen. ERA.
On another note: Leo-2 don't have ATGM capabalities or APS for first precise strike and or active protection. Saying that Leo-2 is superior in God all aspects is really the most stupidest propaganda schutzviller since Gelen... This is not WW2 anymore. This is the 21e century !
