Description
Object 279 (Объект 279). Multisurface heavy soviet tank for frontal assault. Was created in 1959. Remained as prototype.

ok. but why is it named object instead of something else much better to name it?
Almost All soviet/russian have their own "Object" number, it is easier for designers to call them in such way. When tank goes to mass production he gets new, more familiar (depending on their class, weaponry, speed, specialization) for us name: BT, T-34, IS-3, T-90 and so on. As you can see mostly prototypes saved their prototype "Object" names.
