That looks like something out of WWII, but there are subtle bits that show its modern.

yeah, but you (in game) is an american pig and don't use it, but your team mates (Leclerc i think) use it
NATO side use it in game.
At one point in the campaign you as an American Officer (Lt. Parker) takes command of a NATO unit for several missions, so you can use the Leopard 2 in the campaign as well.
So GriffinZ's statement is highly inaccurate and wrong.
