Huge design flaw in the Abrams, no bottom escape hatch, unlike the M60 Patton and previous American MBT's which had one for events like this. I pity that crew trapped inside.
I think the crews are pretty happy for the lack of the bottom hatch when a IED explodes under them...
Even if there was an escape hatch in the under belly, there would barely be enough room or (none) for a man to effectively crawl out; the M1's ground clearance is just too bloody low on even flat terrain.
How the **** did they manage to pull that off?
