ModDB is looking for a few good men (or women) to join its ranks and expand its coverage of the mods listed across the site. Our community consists of a variety of modding groups, the most prevalent one being FPS mods. However, if you look carefully, you'll notice entire sub-communities that gather around different RTS, RPG and Simulation mod projects. We want to recognize the efforts being put into some of these often overlooked projects on the site and so we're putting out a call for volunteers. Think you have what it takes to join the ModDB crew? Prove it to us! Here's how you can apply:
- Find a non-FPS mod to focus on and write a feature about it. This can be anything from a full review or developer interview to a preview of an upcoming build. The key here is to concentrate on mods that have released or are close to releasing. All features should demonstrate an active interest in the subject and colorfully illustrate the specifics of a gameplay experience. We're looking for people who can offer constructive critiques that draw from a history of gaming and exposure to the modding scene.
- Once you've completed a draft, post your article under the features section on ModDB. Make sure to pay attention to the formatting and grammar as best as you can. If you need to see some examples of how ModDB staff formats official editorial content, check out these links:

From Modder to Game Developer
- Finally, PM me (stenchy) with a link to your article. Also include a quick mention of your gaming and modding history with the reason why you want to join the ModDB staff.
I'll be reviewing entries as they come in and giving approval to exceptional content for the front page and possibly the headlines. On March 20th (two weeks from now) ModDB staff will choose the top five articles. As an added bonus, the writer of each will be offered a spot on our volunteer staff roster as well as a copy of World in Conflict. I would put a countdown timer (mmm, countdowns) here, except I don't want this to devolve into some contest for a game. We're looking for long-term volunteers that share our passion for the modding and indie game scene. As ModDB continues to grow, we'll have plenty of opportunities to share perks and offer advancement to the most active staff members. Serious applicants only, please. Thanks.
Very nice! I'd like to participate, since writing seems to be the only thing I'm vaguely good at doing, at the moment. Writing for ModDB? What a fun prospect! :D
I'll try. :)
I'll give it a go :D
I may give it a try and see if I can join the staff again.
Is there any kind of word limit we have to adhere to?
Already got WiC, so my only incentive is to simply write for the fun and prospect of it. :)
Fun and prospect of it, eh
pick me
Oh sounds like a good fair test. I wish you all luck with your entries!
I'm in! Heck, I was already writing up my impressions of MidEast Crisis 2 for my blog anyway!
I would like to be on the MODDB staff, but what are these Arrtess's and errPagee's you speak of?
I would have imagined there being more enthusiasm about a chance to become a temporary staffer.
i would apply, but my crap computer barely works in the first place, let alone run games... can't wait for my new one
Sounds like a challenge, I ever get any free time this week maybe ill try doing this.
Hmm, I want to...but finding a Mod that's not a FPS, close to release, and worthy of a review? That'll be difficult.
Well see thats the thing. It doesn't have to be a mod, or near to release - we are just after someone who is passionate about RTS / MMO (non-fps) games, is well connected and can help us in two ways:
- Can help (and encourage) non-fps modders to join and use the site to greatly enhance our RTS coverage (which many say is not good enough)
- Can cover big news and features from these mods / games when it happens
I think I just found a new article to write! "Thinking Outside the Hitbox" But for now here's some suggestions for anyone looking to get started any a new genre.
RTS: Spring (Free, Total Annihilation remake), Command & Conquer: Generals (many mods will also require the Zero Hour expansion), Homeworld 2, Battle for Middle-Earth 1/2 and Witch King, Warcraft 3 and Command & Conquer 3 are all good starters. Battle for Wesnoth is turn based but has a bunch of add-ons, with a build in browser no less.
RPG: Elder Scrolls 3: Marrowind and 4: Oblivion, Neverwiter Nights 1/2 and Fallout 3 are about the best ones, mod wise.
Precisely what we want - the perk will be free access to the latest games / mods to review
once EALA releases the SDK there should be a ton of mods for Command and Conquer: Red Alert 3 also. there's already a good bit of mods for the SDK not being out.
Agreed, but without a good RTS community on this site, which has happened, those mods will be elsewhere... and not here for us to take a gander at.
(buried)
I already have been working on Video mod reviews, however I don't think the current ModDB staff is ready for my very realistic views on modding... Or are they?
Sounds interesting. Non-fps mod huh...i guess i'll just go with the one I play the most.
Interesting. I'm gonna' definitely spend some time tonight working on this.
wish i could join, but i'm waaay too busy
I'm really quite interested in this..Have a question though, could the entry also be a mod of a mod? I have a couple of mods in mind that, in my honest opinion don't get enough coverage.
Might give it a try, although I'll probably have to dig out my copy of Sins of the Solar Empire of Company of Heroes to do it.
That thing underneath the mod name if that says FPS we can't do a review on it cause I know of some FPS that are rpgs but youre still in FPS... I dunno...
I don't think I want to participate in this undertaking. I am not Moddb worthy.
LOLQ!
Next time, just go for "persons", instead of "men (or women)", we wouldn't want to alienate the girls, right? I know the intention was NOT to, but the distinction does the opposite.
Picture it like a instakill minefield used in games to prevent a player to progress one way or another, just to hide the level boundaries... (bloody poor game design if u ask me) ;)
by saying this your alienating the girls. even in other languages they refer to a masculine word to group together a general audience. even if its 100 females and 1 male.
Thank you, I hate it when people go out of their way to find a lack of PC when no offense was intended.
This would probably be far better than an internship at the local newspaper. I'm in!
i would but i'm too busy right now!!! : (
Alright I'm doing an interview with the team of Cheeks Of Steel hopefully thats good.
Is there an age limit?
Now that you mention it. I'm assuming I got knocked off after I went missing for about three months, but no one really said anything to me.
Will whoever is picked for this role only ever review RTS games?
No not at all, but it would play a big role. I.e. right now I have a copy of RA 3: Uprising and Empire: Total War but no one to review these games and give a development perspective.
Sounds fun. I'm assuming that it's not just RTS games you want to branch out on, but non-FPS genres as a whole?
Also what about mods that litterally change the genre of the game it's modding such as DIPRIP and Half-Life 2 Wars?
I'm definitely giving it a go.
What if the mod is based off of a first-person-shooter (the infamous Source engine. What isn't these days?) but it takes it in a direction other than "shoot, shoot, kill, kill"?
Should we be steering away from FPS games as a whole, or are we just looking for something outside of stuff like Zombie Panic or the Hidden?
I second this question.
Seems a little pointless to pm you a link at this point. :P
All I'd like to see is decent UT mod coverage :P. Mods for it are not just FPS, but there is noone who seems enthusiastic about actually trying stuff out and giving some impressions they had.
Back when UT2K4 was prominent there was no problem in finding reviews, and such about Unreal mods. Now its all the same damned engines getting the same damned reviews.
alright im getting my interview done with people and stuff but what if i don't get to put it out until friday March 20?
