Each rough cluster (of which there are 8 below the main group on top) represents a copy block for map-hack blocks. The blocks are loaded with setmodel() and then the potential ents for that blocked are scanned and if selected copied to destination.
Modding the engine to load ents with models would be a more elegant solution - but also more time consuming.
