Polytheism is the belief or worship in multiple deities usually assembled into a pantheon of gods and goddesses, along with their own religions and rituals. Polytheist.
Nice, rings were always important in european mythologies, maybe this one really is magical and allows the owner to exert unlawful influence over others.
Now i tend to believe that Tolkien actually inspired Lord of the Rings from a real life legend and did not invent all that from nothingness
LOTR happened for real Now that would be a blast !
LOTR was inspired by european mythologies, the Bible and the events of WW1 and WW2. The Eye of Sauron, or All-Seeing Eye is based on the Gestapo grip on countries taken by the germans, for example.
I now wonder from where Star Wars was inspired , certainly not history unless from the kind of history they are keeping secret from the public
Would be really creepy that
Back to LOTR i think Middle Earth was actually an unknown time in prehistoric Europe , earlier or later than the Hyborian ages , personally i assume later because i find Hyboria higher fantasy than LOTR , LOTR portraying more or less a softer type of fantasy not quite high fantasy
Actually, both LOTR and Hyboria are low fantasy, though LOTR has all the tropes that usually go into high fantasy settings. In fact, one could say Tolkien invented the fantasy literary genre by reengineering old mythologies and a few religions.
Also, George Lucas envisioned Star Wars as a space samurai setting, so a lot of the historical references come from Japan, even down to the Jedi being space Kensai (Sword Saints), with a lot of buddhism and shintoism added in to the Jedi code. Qui-Gon Jin's last name (Jin) is actually a Bushido precept that says the warrior must be humanitarian, which explains why he was such a noble and patient man that valued all life, even his enemy's, and was trying to avoid war at all cost.
High fantasy is like Warcraft, Dungeons and Dragons and Warhammer, where magic is abundant and there are multiple known magic users and magic items.
Low fantasy is where magic is rare and either requires divine/demonic assistance or is just heavily ritualized so you cannot just speak a sentence and cast a fireball, magic users and items are rare and usually the stuff of legend, like Excalibur and Merlin.
You mean Warhammer Fantasy not Dawn of War because that is sci-fi with some fantasy elements
I see things more simple like this : Low Fantasy : knights , witches , werewolves , vampires , The Witcher , Gothic
Moderate Fantasy : LOTR , Harry Potter , Narnia
High Fantasy : Hyboria , Ancaria ( world of Sacred the game ) , Sanctuary ( world of Diablo ) , Abeir Toril ( the planet of DnD ) , Nirn ( the planet of Elder Scrolls )
Highest Fantasy : floating cities , angels , vimanas , elementals , Heroes of Might and Magic

Ah good association , indeed Star Wars has Buddhist values
I always like them wherever i find them
If Hyboria is low fantasy then what do you call high fantasy then ?
