Bigger on the inside is really a simple concept.
The interior of every TARDIS is another dimension.
The external door is part of a gate.
I can find nowhere an indication if all TARDIS interiors share the same dimension as a series of shells...or if they all have separate dimensions.
It also seems as if a TARDIS interior is capable of near limitless expansion.
