A group dedicated to the civilized debate and discussion of a wide range of topics, from the political to gaming and so on.
As major shifts in the world occur over millenia, such as feudalism's fall to capitalism among other parts of our long term evolution as a civilization. Dynasties to democracy, monarchies to republics, horses to aircraft, barter to coin, ect.
What currently seems to you, the most relevant problem with how the world functions as a whole and what do you think will either change or be developed to address these major widespread outstanding issues in the modern day?
We as a species focus too much on murdering each other and leveling whatever those that aren't with us build instead of trying to further science, none violent technology, and space exploration.
BTW that's an awesome picture which I might just add to my desktop background collection...
Elfriend you are truly a one of a kind. If only we had more people who go on the internet to say how wrong war is, you are a minority on that issue.
From my experience there is quite a lot of people that think war is stupid. Linus and Slick expressed their views of it last wan show and Logan and Wendell expressed their veiws in one of the tek episodes. All four of them think war is detrimental to our society...
There are way too many issues that I hope will be addressed in the future to mention here.
I suppose my main point would be space exploration. I would like to see the human race building colonies on other planets and mining resources from any metal rich asteroids that we can. Also, renewable/nuclear energy usage would be nice too.
I'd probably be dead by the time any of this happens though though. Yay average life expectancy of 79 years.
Maybe with technology we can extent that life expectancy. I'd like it if I could create a GLaDOS like AI before my body dies. However I doubt I will succeed. (Play portal 2 if you don't get the reference. Or read this: I intend to put my mind in a machine )
I heard that by the end of 21 century, the average lifetime should rise to about 150 years and continue rising due to advancement in genetics.
Scientists have already discovered how to activate some inactive parts of DNA and stimulate regrowth of some parts of human body (for example teeth) and they keep discovering more.
In the future, we should be able to regenerate any part of our body and thus handsomely prolong our lifetime.
The current problem echoed almost everywhere seems to be of governments serving everyone but the public. Most commonly this translates to people who know little to nothing about governments yelling on about "big government" as though it's a monarchy.
If anything I think governments will inevitably be forced to become even more liberal variations of social capitalist systems where trivial things like drugs and prostitution become part of the economy and anti-nationalism will become entrenched in the zeitgeist.
The middle east's ongoing struggle for democracy will find its religion going the way of Christianity as atheism becomes the west's norm with the internet sustaining a second enlightenment that's already begun.
