In December of 2013, Icelanders peacefully removed their government, nationalised their banks and changed their constitution, yet little to nothing was reported in most media, but a dumb Canadian pop star DUIing garnered all sorts of attention. The question I propose is: Does the media have its priorities straight?
Personally, I think its rather obvious that it doesn't. I also believe that it likely constitutes to the ignorance of the general population that is becoming more and more widespread. Its ridiculous that people standing up for their rights, be it violently or peacefully, get no recognition in news outlets yet celebrity worship is pretty much supported through even the more serious news outlets.
I don't want to live on this planet anymore.
On topic: according to the standard free capitalist model the the media does have its priorities straight as they report on what their consumers want to see/here/know about. Though the question remains whether it's the media manipulate the public to only care about worthless crap or that it's the public who wants worthless crap in the first place...

Off topic: Next time could you (and everyone else who post something to debate) put your personal opinions as a separate comment, because posting personal opinions on the image description does set the tone of the entire discussion (or at least possibly color/harden opinions)
The media can't get any more stupid than it already is and unfortunately its society that caused that. Unfortunately in our society nobody cares about important issues like the NSA, rebellions, Net neutrality, privacy, etc. and is simply worried about what some idiot will wear on Monday, what idiot crashed a car and killed someone, or what some stupid singer did to get busted. And that's if we are lucky enough for them to care about SOMETHING! So overall there are too many idiots alive right now and the media is reflecting that with the kind of content they are featuring. This is the reason why I gave up on most media outlets choosing to get my news from people like Tek Syndicate, Truthloader, The Verge (sometime), etc.
Really though Logan and Wendell joked about how messed up the media was in their last tek video. Highly recommend watching the tek each and every week! Teksyndicate.com
BTW I'm with you on wanting to get in a space ship that has a warp drive and getting as far away from this world as possible. The amount of idiots on this planet is too damn high!
Maybe it's too much to take in all of the woes in the world that're happening. Or maybe we're sevearly tired and demoralized from all of the bad news that's been happening. By the way, if you find a report that you think it's important cross reference it with another source that has it just to make sure it's happened(ing) and get some grains of truth out of it
Media have their owners. That's all.
It seems that the more bad and good things happen, the more the media spews forth vapid horse **** like celebrity gossip, talent shows, faux political debates and reality shows, since it's in their best interest to keep the people entertained, and not informed.
Off-topic; I wonder if we can power a warp drive engine with all of the stupidity on planet Earth.
Sadly, the media is what the people want; the consumers wish it, and the media delivers. The media, while perhaps not the complete face of what our society is, makes up a large portion of it. Regrettably it seems to be trapped in some sort of cycle where it takes how ridiculous people are in real life, exaggerate it, and popularize it everywhere, causing people to act in such a way as the exaggerated model shows, and thus request more ridiculous content, which in turn goes through the cycle and becomes even more ridiculous... We grow continually more absurd.
On a slightly brighter note, I was at the supermarket recently and saw that featured between the vapid celebrity nonsense magazines there was a National Geographic magazine called "Our Galaxy" which dedicated 130-something pages to the nature of the cosmos. There may still be hope!
No, the media's priorities have become corrosive to the average joe. The new unofficial motto is "there's no good news like bad news."
