I still remember my grandpa who is also a WWII veteran in the pacific. I will never forget his sacrifice to fight for our country (Philippines).

As someone that hates anything to do with war, I have no sympathy for those that fought in it. Even if they were fighting on the "good guys" side they were still murdering people just in a way that's somehow considered "legal".

I John 3:15 - “Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him”

We're all murderers. At one time or another in our lives, we have all been found guilty of that crime. The entire point of what Christ taught was to let go of hate, and instead show love. Honestly, lack of remorse is anything but love.

Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all offenses. Even those committed in war. If you're unable to move on into acceptance and grace, that's between you and God.

It is not our place to judge like described in Matthew 7:1-29. If you're going to hold it against a soldier for doing his duty. If you're going to judge him for doing what he has to do for his nation's security. Just bear in mind, you're no more innocent than he is.

It is not about making the killing legal, it is about the unfortunate necessity of it. Some people would never stop if others didn't fight against them, it is just human nature. So sometimes, even those that do not want to fight or kill, must do it.

And yet Jesus said that if someone hits you on your left cheek turn your head so that they can hit your right as well. The old way of an eye for an eye has been overwritten and we no longer have to fight when God can do it for us.

Both of you make good points.

In all honesty however this is gonna differ from Christian to Christian.

However, Elf Friend...

I really think you should read about Desmond Doss, just because someone joins the military doesn't mean they're a bad person or should hold no respect/sympathy. And I'll tell you, Desmond never fired a gun or killed anyone. And he got the Medal of Honor as a medic saving his fellow soldiers in the Pacific of World War II.

And those guys, despite harsh beginnings, ended up being good friends with him even helping him find his Bible after the battle was over in the field he got wounded in. I read the story in a book about World War II Heroes. It was beautiful.

It's not the place of us Christians to look down on others just because we find a fault with them. And likewise, for something as controversial as the military. I believe I'm right on target to say that even if we want nothing to do with killing. Rejecting these soldiers when they come back because of what they did is not Christian of us at all. Rejection just creates resentment and sorrow for people.

I know that from personal experience. Rejection, especially by your so called brothers and sisters in Christ. That feeling can kill you, it's murder. It's murder far worse than that by bullets and bombs. And I'll add, Christ never did that to His followers. Even Peter who was always questioning. It's one thing to be slain by the sword, it's entirely another to be slain by the words of a brother.

I'm more of the opinion that we should never send people to war in the first place.

Yes, but unfortunately, war sometimes comes to you. The deffending side is usually the losing side aswell, sometimes you just have to smite back an opponent who is not attacking just you, but innocents aswell.

Given most conflicts these days are done out of political motivations rather than in the necessity of defense I'm gonna have to agree.

Most these wars today we should've never sent anyone to begin with.

That is talking more about the minnenial reign, when the Lord will be seated on His throne and exercise His justice.

Until then, since God gave you life and liberty, it seems logical that you have the right to defend it or another friend's life when one or both are in danger. In fact, God even ordered Israel to go to war before.

Description

Today is June 6th, over 70 years ago today the greatest invasion to date took place on the shores of Normandy France. It was a long day, and many men didn't get to see the sunset.

I'd like to ask everyone here though, to appreciate. Not just those who died, but those who live. Wherever they may be out there. Those we consider kin, despite what side they were on or war they were in.

It was never God's intention for brother to fight brother, nation to fight nation. Yet a lot of blood has been spilt since then. Going back as far as we can remember our history.

How many little white crosses? How many more have to be beared? Look at them, lined up row by row. They all represent someone. Someone who had a father and a mother, someone who had hopes and dreams. Many of them even spouses and children. Entire families.

It's been said we should not grieve such men, but rather thank God such men lived. But when it's those we hold so close who had to pay this price, then how can one not grieve? How can tears not be shed? How, how can one not feel cut in spirit?

I have only this advice.

Love is patient and longsuffering, it's grace and forgiveness. When a loved one dies and they knew the Lord. Then rest content, you'll see them again. Don't be held up by bitterness and old wounds. War, death itself will be brought to a end one day, never to return. Joy will come in the morning and will all wake up.

Until then, keep the faith.
