Description

Self explanatory.

I'd argue that without religion, the world would be even worst. I do not doubt that religion has caused conflicts and still does but it does far more good.

The majority of charities are religious run, the Catholic Church is the biggest non-governmental provider of healthcare globally and studies have shown that religious practice and Church attendance is mentally and physically good for people.

The Middle East conflicts are influenced by politics and whilst someone who is anti-religion might bring up extremist Christians and Muslims in African and Middle Eastern countries, I'd put that down to bad education rather than religion. People conveniently forget that Africa has always had a problem with issues like belief in superstition (something Christianity teaches against), long before any organized religion reached them.

Not to mention that studies have revealed that religion is rooted in minds and is human nature, evolving with humanity so just wishing away organized religions would solve nothing as they would be replaced with many of the secular ideologies we see today which divide groups just as well (even if not more) than any religion.

The real problem then in many parts of the world is extremism, corruption and greed in politics, lack of resources which is causing poverty, totalitarian governments, crime and in the case of Africa, a land with droughts, famines and less development and Agriculture than 1st world countries (with a lot of aid work being performed by Christian charities). Even if we did say the issues in the Middle East were religiously motivated by Islam, I don't see how that involves Christianity or the host of other religions in the world.
