Mod of the Year 2007

Welcome to Mod DB and the 6th Annual Mod of the Year Awards - the definative event that showcases the best mods and indie games in the world and recognizes the teams behind them. The MOTY is a tribute to the creativity, dedication & hard work independent developers put into creating unique gaming experiences that enable us to "play something different".

Over the coming months we will showcase to you the best mods and games in the industry. You vote for those you believe are worthy of recognition. At the top of this program sits the ultimate prize, the mod of the year award won previously by Natural Selection, Red Orchestra, PoE2 and Garry's Mod. Thanks to our sponsors, this year we have a few surprizes up our sleaves not to mention a slew of prizes for the participating teams.

From Dec 1st to Jan 1st, industry professionals, developers, gamers and the general public cast their votes to decide which mods define the cutting edge of interactive entertainment and which mod teams attain gaming celebrity.

Follow the links to join us on an unforgettable journey as we present the 2007 Mod of the Year.

Hey, it's a nice new counter for the awards, but how about getting the important things sorted out first like the video servers so people that haven't submitted any video's before the switch over can showcase their mods, as without this, these awards are starting to look unfair & a bit of a farce.

I suspected this would come up and you will be pleased to know videos are what I am working on right this minute. Now that the majority of MOTY content is running videos should follow in the next 48hours (given no issues pop-up).

I remember thinking at the time of the switchover that you would have your work cut out for you as the switchover was almost on top of the MONTY's, seems I thought right, & if the video servers can't be fixed up before the awards are finished, or even if they are fixed half way through, then how fair is that, as even up to now I & other modders have probably lost out on votes that might have gone our way if our video's were showcasing.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think that my mode will come anywhere in the awards, being a Max Payne 1 mod, so weither I stand a chace of winning or not is irrelevant, but there are mod's out there with unshown video's that do stand a chance, so I'd like to think that the awards are still fair to all concerned.

It's amazing to see that even after all this time that Half-Life 1 is still up there in the leading mod games, or is this something to do with the excellent, recently released PARANOIA mod?

Why the hell is Crysis number 4? It doesn't even *have* any serious mods released for it yet.

It'd be nice to also know how the Indie games are doing for IGOTY because the Top 10 Games that have been modded is really useless info for me IMO, though others might find it useful. Don't forget that there is more than Mods in the categories this time.

I deliberately don't show mods / or leading indie games so that way no cheating etc goes on. All that is simply displayed is votes as they happen, since you cannot really determine a great deal from a vote.

I think your cheating yourself here mate if you think that this scoreboard shows the true score of what might have been for some modders if your video servers were up & working already.

In my opinion this scoreboard should never have been put up before the video servers were up & working, & the awards should never have been started before then also, as they are bias in favor of modders that do have their videos already on show.

Even if you manage to fix the video servers up in the next couple of days, there's just no going back now as voting has already begun, & it's too late for some as a lot of modders have already cast their votes, & I do know that modders are allowed to vote for more then one mod, but it's also a know fact that many don't.

That's why this years awards will always be tainted with the stigmer of unfair voting for me.

What a shame........:(

It's strange that realy old mod's that have either been released for years, or discontinue years ago because the modders working on them have lost their interest, are still able to be voted for in these awards, & you'd be amazed at the amount of votes that some of these mods are still getting, & a lot of modders only cast one vote, so it's a vote waisted in my opinion.

Surely this needs to be looked into, as after all this is the Mod Of The Year Awards, & not the Mod Of The Decade.

It would be a lot better if awards were confined to mods that had been released in the past year, or mods that are still active.

After all you wouldn't give a 2007 OSCAR to a movie that was made in previous years would you?

Just a thought......;)
