Thrive is a game about the universe- we want to let you play however you want, make whatever you want, and live however you like. Thrive will be a free, open-source game created by an online community of dedicated volunteers. Our team seeks to accomplish two major goals: create engaging, compelling gameplay that respects our players' intelligence, and remain as accurate as possible in our depiction of known scientific theory.

Less concept art, more work... I want to see this game get PAST the concept stage for once!

I hear ya, but can you REALLY expect a small indie dev team to make the same progress in creating the one of the world's most advanced video games, complete with such features as an ACTUAL evolution model, true limb-and-bone-based animation and behaviors (which is what SPORE was supposed to have), and what will probably equate to SimCity elevated to real-time nation management and control in 1 year that another, equivalent indie studio working on a 'normal' RTS/RPG/FPS/whatever would in the same time period?

Did I say I wanted it to be done? I just want some actual code for the engine done, and that we can see videos :D

edit: Though, at extremely early stages of development (pre-alpha?) videos would probly crash almost every time you try recording :P

I disagrgee with you, lol1234, concept art is great! Especially since just because theres concept art, it doesn't mean they aren't still working on the game itself. Heck concept art IS working on the game. :]
Great symbol, but what is its purpose? Editor?

It just denotes a biome. It will provbably be used as an icon for lists or groups of biomes in the game's content library. We're working hard on coding, don't you worry.

Yay, coding is being done, can you give me a valve time estimate on how long it will be until we see videos of it in action? (or at least stages at a time...) :D

You'll probably have a concept DL'd before you see videos. As soon as we have something stable, we're giving it out to test.

Unfortunately, you are going to have to wait a while for any videos. Although Thrive has coders who are working hard and doing well, there aren't that many. On top of that, Thrive is an indie game, so there aren't any hired coders or paid anything, really, so you'll have to wait.
Also, concept art is cool. You get a nice visualisation of the idea of the game without needing any coding done. It is like a static image of the game idea, sort of like a screenshot from the 2005 Spore video, except closer to the end product. Even if the game is nothing like the art, it can't be as far off as that. XD

I think you have set heroic aims for the future. Maybe it would be better to concentrate yourselves only on the evolution of the cells. That task will be complex enough. Shaping life forms and cultures later seems to be a bit too much in my opinion.
