We've remained loyal to the style and feel of the 1996 classic, while integrating content from its expansions Counterstrike and The Aftermath with a bit of updated history to add to the mix. The old method for checking out the battlefield
from across the way has changed for Beta. The
sniper rifles and anti-air launcher (it might end
up being the Stinger for Beta as the RedEye itself
may not be ready) are all being outfitted with
brand new scopes, and Officers and Spies are being
given binoculars for scanning the distant hilltops
and valleys.

This set of changes is actually more exciting
than it actually sounds. The zoom factors for each
object are set unique from the others, with their
own respective minimum and maximum magnification.
Also, we're mixing up the sniper rifles a
bit, in our continued effort to give a little bit
more of a distinct feel to the otherwise identical
weapons on each side.

Both rifles are actually now having their
magazines increased to the 10-shot capacity their
real-world counterparts feature, and the SVD is
being upgraded to semi-auto fire capability. It
shoots much faster than before, but is not as good
at long ranges as the Enfield due to the
Soviets' somewhat lesser training and weaker
scopes. The Enfield is far more accurate and has
more stopping power, despite firing much slower.
It's a little bit amusing that we've
turned to looking at the real-world statistics for
these weapons in order to make fun, yet balanced
changes.
