Yep it's their own 'Spark' engine, apparently created by just 1 guy called Max.

I like the new Assault Rifle, looks more Sci-fi than
that one which looks like a WW2 German rifle with an ACOG scope attached that doesn't actually work.

Yeah I can see that, difference being that this engine was made by 1 guy in a small team of devs with a relatively tiny budget.

Things are looking good for PC gaming and independent studios.

Alien (1) or Aliens (2)?

I'd say Aliens because of the Marines and the refinery setting.

There's obvious inspirations like the sentry turrets, infestation and eggs under the hive.

Which is a good thing because Aliens is an awesome movie.

Snazz Oct 31 2009, 4:31pm replied:

You could say just about any sci-fi shooter looks like quake/doom, they're the pioneers of the genre.

It's a pre-alpha screen shot, which means it could look quite different by the time it is released.

Regardless of how the gun is positioned (also notice no HUD whatsoever), it is a real in game shot.

The teaser video is also in the game engine (not CGI), however it is not real game play it is edited in their custom cinematic tools.

I agree with stealth, this and the alien mouth view shot look not exactly ingame. If it is great, just saying the perspective the shots are taken at doesn't really add up. I would say it looks more like concept art.

Except development has moved way beyond 'concept art' phase. These are ingame assets rendered ingame, whether or not it is GAMEPLAY is another matter.

Snazz Nov 1 2009, 5:10pm replied:

Whether they just lined up the assets for the shots or were actually playing at the time is unknown. Either-way it is too early in development to determine whether it accurately/completely represents the final game play.

The exact first person perspectives are subject to change as it's not even at Alpha stage.

You should look at some of the real concept art then compare, you'll realize what is in game and what is a drawing: Naturalselection2.com

Lighting is spot-on, everything is looking crisp and defined with all round excellent modelling and texturing -- especially on the rifle and first-person hands. Can't wait to see more.

I don't care for the look of the guns, looks too boxie, kind of like those old, it lacks realism on the design, kind of like very good looking tissue boxes glued together~

Snazz Nov 2 2009, 8:23pm replied:

Did you know it's a science-fiction shooter?

If you want 'realism' you're looking at the wrong genre.

Regardless of how practical the design might be if we were actually in space fighting aliens, they look great to me.

BTW, Tissue boxes? WTF mate?

DIGI_Byte Nov 6 2009, 3:58am replied:

I'm saying the guns don't look that great, they appear to have an overall boxy design approach giving them a very "clunky" fell to them.

And I KNOW its a sci-fi, I used to play the original...

Godwin Nov 6 2009, 4:12am replied:

Well see, you're not from the same future the game postulates. 30 years ago, no one foresaw MOLLE equipment or modular P-rail systems. So... does it really matter? Besides, the dimensions look just about the same as any other current generation assault rifle, first-person view just blows things up.
