Yes you need siege weapons. Laddermens, ram, catapults or trebuchet make the siege of a town easier. The mod called Orient and Occident and is one of the mod of the series The Life of Kings.
The update 010224 changes: cyprus island make a little bit bigger; all provinces have only max of 3 zones and if possible harbour zones; Bryansk have not more the highlander units and the rebels and loyalist can use the ladderman. For this update you must start the game new.
