Those who don't know what The Bloodiest Acre was, It was the Colosseum, aka "The Flavian Ampitheater".
This is not an exact replica of course, and as much as I would have loved to do the interiors and do a proper replica, I found this to be near impossible with the resources available in the editor. Not only that, but the map goes well above recommended limits and doesn't run crash hot.
I wasn't really going to do any gameplay in this map at all, however if there were some sortof game type where it were machetes only, this map would be awesome, however due to guns, I've put sparse crappy looking cover inside of the arena itself, and a vehicle bay up the opposite end of the Emperors stand, so basically whoever is on the UFLL team is screwed since the APR have one gun vehicle with a 50.cal on it, and a few buggies to run UFLL people down. Not only that but the UFLL still have ground troops to worry about, as well as some luckier people who may spawn up in the stands for sniping, however if you don't pick a long ranged weapon, you may find it difficult to do much from the stands.
This map is only designed for TDM.
It is designed for the Real world landmarks award and took around 22 hours to do.
Here are some screenshots:
How long did it take to make???
Very impressive. This kind of dedication is admirable.
ah woops, I thought I said how long it took, hehe, I can't remember exactly, but I'd say around 18-20 hours over the course of 3 days, including me having to scrap the original colosseum and then re-making it with more of an oval shape rather than just a round circle.
How does it run on your computers btw? It's not so crash hot on mine lol.
Wow man, this is by far some of your best work.It would be cool to make like a pit in the center of the arena, maybe were you can see boxes or something, kind of like storage. If you take the greenhouse tables it looks like some kind of grate.
heh, i'm not that lazy :P I would make the pit myself out of smaller custom objects if I did that.
The Colosseum didn't have a pit so I don't have one :P
Then again I guess it didn't have big blocky looking pillars everywhere either...
If you want it to look more like the real colosseum, then it's best to just go to the editor and remove those crappy looking blocks from the center of the arena, as I only put those in so that people on foot have cover. However as I said, if it were just a knives only game type, I would love to leave it open.
And the idea of the vehicles is kinda like having chariots to run over troops.
Rofl Nuts,i like it,cool symmetry, you captured the feeling just right,
if only we had some monsters armors and spears to battle with :)
Good job mate.
Oh yeah there are plenty of IF ONLY's in here :P
IF ONLY the vehicles were CHARIOTS, IF ONLY everyone got to choose which weapon they wanted. IF ONLY there were lions that were released from their holding cells, IF ONLY I flooded the arena and put boats in it (I did that btw, it was kinda cool :D).
IF ONLY the view distance on objects was much larger and half the pillars around the outside would not disappear when you go too far away from them :P
Lots of IF ONLY's......gosh.....IF ONLY :(
