EXIL is a game which tell the story of Lena, a young girl which recently died. It's a platform game filled with action and dynamic fights. Her suicide will leave here deep inside of the dead's kingdom. She lost her memory and parts of her soul.

Status ("Are you dead ? -bis repetita-")

As always my plans never finish as I would like to. During June my end year exams ate all my free time, I was unable to work on EXIL. I spent then all July to work on the project.

Good news : since I was able to work freely I made some advancement on the gameplay side. I'm still a bit away from the demo/prototype that I was talking about in my previous news but it's closer than before.



Lena

During this month I worked on 2 aspects of the player : visuals and acrobatic actions. I have reworked on the main character Lena since the previous version was... well... ugly. Over the time I always improve my skills and even if nothing is perfect I believe that the new Lena is better than ever :



On the concept her clothes feels very big but I will try to keep them natural and logical regarding Lena's capabilities. This is why on the 3D version everything is more thin. My goal in this version was the make her very acrobatic and thin. I took my inspiration for the proportion from Bayonetta as a start. I tried to make some clothes which could be used in the desert to project you form the dust and also something like you could use in evenings worldly.

Gameplay

The gameplay is the most recent change in EXIL, I'm currently working on it and improve it step by step. Lena is now capable to climb ledges better than before, stand up on them and use columns to progress. I have also fixed the distance that Lena can reach when doing wallruns. That's mean that I can now test some level design stuff and traps.

I have also reworked on the main story. I have now what I think is a strong story and something interesting to follow. The main plot is :

Story wrote: Lena is a young girl who has committed suicide. She wakes up deep inside the dead's world. Disoriented, alone and without any memories before her death Lena run around the lonely world under her feet. But a voice seems to know more about her than Lena itself. This voice propose his help to find the right path in this world and get back her memories.

Who is this voice ? What is his purpose ? Why Lena died ?


It sound "cliché" but it's hard to explain the story without breaking all the suspense. Keep in mind that nothing is normal in this world and you will meet a lot of surprise.



I have also worked on a menu system (totally custom), it's mostly a test fo my code. This is far from the final version :
