Lightweight collection of tweaks making the vanilla game better. Optional custom "autoexec.cfg" included.
// PURPOSE
What I wanted to achieve with this lightweight collection of changes, is to address original gameplay quirks that stand out to me the most when it comes to best 'Doom 3' enjoyment. One should also expect the game to have become slightly more challenging here. Nonetheless, the vanilla-compatible experience ought be there.
In the end, my aim was to put together a background mod of universal use. Some changes were implemented by hand, other imported from the works of few modders. If you are listed in the credits but wish not for your work to be featured in this package, please let me know.
The package contains a custom "autoexec.cfg" file hopefully making it easier to get the best out of 'idTech4' engine and 'Doom 3' in particular. Use of the "autoexec.cfg" is not required for the package to work properly, but it is highly recommended.
// COMPATIBILITY
Tested with 'dhewm3' sourceport version "1.5.2" although the vanilla 'Doom 3' version "1.3.1" should be perfect as well. The 'Resurrection of Evil' expansion pack is expected to work fine with this to a good degree.
// INSTALLATION
Simply put the extracted "zmod.pk4" and/or the "autoexec.cfg" in your "base" folder or otherwise in a valid mod/map folder of choice within 'Doom 3' working space - remember that alphabetical order of data files does matter, hence the name "zmod.pk4". Load from the "mods" menu within the game, if put as a separate mod. It loads automatically if put in the "base" folder of the game. To uninstall, simply delete the "zmod.pk4" file.
The "autoexec.cfg" solution works according to principle of overriding the "config.cfg" file. In order to finetune your "autoexec.cfg", open that file with simple text editor and follow written instructions. Save once done.

- 'Brass and Blood' mod by Burning Fish and Boglito (repack by lufusol, shotgun spread tweak maintained) // it is a decal and FX mod, making brass and blood stay longer, with additional shotgun spread narrowed down, as to make the gun useful on close-to-mid range rather than close range only
- Handgrenade physics taken exclusively after 'Realistic Weapons v10' by Killatomate // when it comes to physics, handgrenades in vanilla 'Doom 3' were truly inviting to become modded, the handgrenade also no longer explodes on target contact but fuse only now
- Shotgun reload rate adjusted to 1/1 after 'Realistic Weapons v10' by Killatomate // the vanilla way of shotgun reload was arcade fun but it did not make better sense in my personal view
- Chaingun clip capacity and low ammo threshold increased by 33% // chaingun and machinegun first and foremost are too similar thing of a gun and I dislike that lack of originality between them
- Machinegun clip capacity and low ammo threshold decreased by 16% // the machinegun as it is ought to be replaced with something like a fast-firing SMG, rather than being an all-around nothing-good-for, while the clip capacity reduction is to partially compensate for the beneficial chaingun tweak
- Armor suit bonus reduced by 60% and armor shard bonus reduced by 80% // the armor bulk felt mostly underused within gameplay dynamics, especially in terms of abundant armor pickups in the campaign and low armor consumption due to actual protection value of only 20% - making the armor items to give less should effectively bestow an impression of greater usage and importance
- Value of ammo pickups reduced by 20% // to spice the game up a bit in terms of resources management, as 'Doom 3' is rather generous with ammo availability
- Soundpack by Trent Reznor reintroduced // it changes a lot for the better, although there is a noticeable pistol sound glitch on the breaking of firing and reload, in my case at least
- 'A.I. scripts v1.0' by Dafama // more aggressive and efficient opponents make combat more fun, detected minor collision on "monster_zombie_base.def" with Trent Reznor soundpack

// MISCELLANEOUS
The "autoexec.cfg" included in this package should work properly with 'Quake 4' version "1.4.2". Some extra variables for 'Quake 4' may include: seta com_allowConsole "1" to allow the command console within the game, while another one interesting is seta g_brasstime "999" to force the gunshells remain longer on the ground. Finally, for the multi-core processor support, you may want to try seta r_useSMP "1" if that improves for you anything whatsoever.
