A GZDoom Shader pack that replaces all of the original DOOM / DOOM 2 / The Plutonia Experiment / TNT, liquid textures for a more modern looking effect. More details below.
DOOM Liquid Texture Pack V6.0 - Mod DB
- Version 4.0 which is an older build of this mod and worked for gzdoom and zandronum go here : Moddb.com
----Version 6.8 update (13/5/22)----
-------------------------------------------------Changes to version 6.8--------------------------------------------------
- Lava - parallax wave animation now adjusts diffuse color, this visually makes it looks like the hot lava is changing its height between the cold magma islands. new HD cold magma texture and normal map, added extra distortion and animation speed to the hot lava to make it look more active.
- toxic - small adjustments to specular values.
- water / slime / blood - increased gloss values by 200%, looks more wet and polished under dynamic lights.
---------------------------------- Texture Pack Details-------------------------------------------------------------------
- Compatible for DOOM 1, DOOM 2, Plutonia and TNT.
- The texture pack is only supported for gzdoom as it uses shaders to create the texture animation and final color.
- Comes with 2 main files to help with mod compatibility.
(The full version is the "LTP V6.8.pk3 )
(The "No Splash" version is for use with mods that may use their own terrain effects)
- The full version file, has a option menu to toggle on / off the small and large splash particles separately, you can also adjust the size of the large splashes. this may come in handy when using other mods
- Underwater shader for wobbly screen effect. this also has a option to adjust
- The liquids have sprite clipping to make the monsters and player appear to be standing in deep water.
- comes with a test map and a user guide that goes into detail about the pack and for map builders to use. The user guide also demonstrates on how to create you own patch file to make the shader work for custom maps that use their own textures.
- Comes with a texture patch file for doom 1 level E4M5.
- to obtain the best looking results the GZDoom linear texture filter woks well.
- When using the pack, make sure to place the file last in your load order to override any other liquid textures that your mod packs and maps may be using.
- you are free to use this in your own Doom map / mod. some credits would be nice and a link to this page if people want to find and download the original file.
-----------------------Textures or shaders not appearing correct ------------------------------------------------
- the Softpoly and OpenGLES API seem to only display the static place holder textures for me.
- if the textures appear static or incorrect for you, try using the Vulkan or OpenGL API. (located in the set video option).
- make sure to use the gzdoom official release versions, as development builds "DevBuild" can be unstable sometimes.
eg. gzdoom 4.6.0b ( b = Beta / DevBuild version )
- the mod should work on older official release versions of GZDoom as long as it is a version that supports specular and normal maps.
- check that your GPU driver's are up to date.
--------------------------------------For LZDoom Users----------------------------------------------
- A user by the name of emawind84 has made a modified version of my (LTP) file and also a modified version of the LZDoom / Questzdoom port to make the (LTP) shaders work. if you have any questions or troubles running the files please dont ask me as i am only focused on the gzdoom version.
- Modified files for the LZDoom / Questzdoom port: scroll down to assets section to find the .zip files, the files that you download are to replace the original files - Github.com
- Modified Liquid texture pack file for LZDoom / Questzdoom: click on the green code button to see the download .zip option appear - Github.com

This is fantastic. Thanks for your hard work!
Nice work. However I am not able to run it. Using gzdoom 3.3
Script error, "GZD Liquids Pack.pk3:gldefs" line 6:
Error parsing defs. Unknown tag: material.
i downloaded this file and tried it myself to make sure everything is working. and i have no issues with the pack, only thing i can think of is you are loading another file after the texture patch? i also downloaded gzdoom 3.3.1 and still works fine, try just loading doom and this texture pack with zdl loader.
Is there the best MAP to try normalmap and specular on this mod?
Moreover, it seems that the background of the wall surface is not applied.
Good job!
Doesn't work, it says: Script error, "GZD Liquids Pack.pk3:gldefs" line 6:
Error parsing defs. Unknown tag: material.
How do i fix it?
I have bug with brown(dirty) water,Im testing it with bd v21 rc3 and brown water doesnt have late waves. Here is the example;
Imgur.com
Brown water doesnt have this effect.
sure would like to see this mod evolve. the water/liquids in old doom need it.
Is there somewhere I could try version 1? Or could you make a ZIP with both and let the user decide?
I get no waves like the guy above (or like in BD)
have you tried Dropbox.com
would be a great set of additions if combined
you need to update the screenshots. It looks GREAT now! Really well done.
I can't really tell there is a glow on the texture. (was using GZDoom WAD) Would be extra cool if there were a thin layer of fog on slime/lava. Any chance you could slow down the animation? The liquid looks very agitated and in most places in doom it is just sitting there.
Also there are errors when loading it with DOOM classic in the startup console.
Thanks for this... great touch to Doom.
Ok thanks.
I didn't use GZDoom version on zandronum of course. It works as you see in my screenshots. Maybe I just leave that version for gzdoom. Zandronum doesn't have shaders. Version 1.1 looked good in zandronum. But I would like alternative patterns (eg. like in 1.0 screenshots)
Cheers
no problem, i made a shader pack as well to add a small glow effect to the textures to give them a new effect. for some reason tho the effect causes all the sprites to go full bright that's why i made it separate so you can choose to use it or not.
Would it be much work to give it a blue theme? Would make for better compatiblity with other mods. Steamcommunity.com (thats BD water ripple effects in Free Doom 2 campaign, running your latest version)
In version 1.1 the water looked at least like.. well it looked blue Steamcommunity.com
btw, I don't really need the ripple effect. I could just disable it. But i can't stand that the waterfall is in a completely different color. Just hard to ignore. I didn't have that impression with version 1.1
i will be doing the rest of the liquids next such as the waterfalls, blood falls etc then the lava textures.
That's great news. Looking forward to it.
Question, does this addition make liquids look 3D when in reality it's like an optical effect?
can you please upload the previous versions?
oh yeah! downloading right away, thank You, i hope next version gonna be pbr :)
well i am playing alien vendetta right now and i see that there is a shader pack included which look really nice but i found that there are places with vertical water which are not replaced by liquid pack :( so it looks a little off because i'm looking at water which look nice on flat surface but those vertical textures ruined the overall look.
yea i knew this would be a issue for users, the problem is the original doom games never actually had water/slime and lava fall textures in them ( even i was surprised they did not make them originally ), the only waterfall style textures that doom has are the nukadge and blood fall textures, and it would be quite time consuming to go through all the popular custom wads out there, that use non original waterfall type textures. for mappers that want to use these textures i have made a resource file to be used in GZDB which have the extra waterfall type of textures so they can apply them to the maps that they are working on. that's why i still ended up making the waterfall/lavafall/slimefall textures. maybe in the future ill ask around for the popular wads that people play. but for now i am working on my next project that wont even use these textures. i just felt responsible to finish what i started on.
oh ok, i wasn't aware of that, so in that case - works fine looks fine > thank You!
frstly, awesome work.
Any chance to download v1? (or alternate bright ight green version of nukage as stand alone?)
The light glowing green (nuclear) colour of Nukage is prefered and fits with the barrels (since brutal doom eday)
Hey is there any way where i can download the V1.1 with the blue water?
I would like to see vanilla style waterfall for my map in DOOM 2. I can't find it.
Oh, God - I was found waterfall textures in Plutonia. I am lucky.
Makes me happy to see you still active :)
awesome, but very heavy for my pc.light version for 2 gigas ram computers, please.
wooow dude you save my life this is great, its so weird that nobody think about this, great addon
incredible. My only gripe is the water animation is like a fast moving river. Most liquid in Doom is in areas where it would be much more still. It seems like something that looked like slowly rising/lowering fluid would work better in most situations than a fixed direction quick flow. Any chance to get that animation as an option? If you look at Doom E1M1 or Doom2 Map02 the flowing water is moving from side to side vs the length you'd expect and it makes you notice the direction more than the awesome effect.
Regardless, really well done.
I absolutely love it. It's universal, easy to load and looks stunning. I use it with Brutal Doom on multiple maps and those liquid textures always make the maps look better. Sure, there might be occasional issues with the maps using their own liquid textures, but nothing can be done about that.
Great work pal, it's incredible!
Thanks Dox
How to do you make these textures ?
Oh my gosh! I'm really impressed!
I shake it very cool!
damn this pack was reduced to much from the previous who reached 100 mbs
Can I download the 4.0 version?
just added it: Moddb.com
Oh thank u very much, also is the project doom 2 remap dead, it seems to be abandoned..
i will be restating the project in the next few weeks.
Can you do a low res version of 5.0? I really like the effects but it's too "HD" and it clashes heavily with vanilla Doom textures
no sorry, this texture pack was mainly designed for my own personal project and i decided to make it a separate add-on for the original doom levels.
are you going to update the lava?
theres a certain lava texture who doesnt look like it belong to the pack
should be improved on the next version, i had to get all of the new scripting setup for this version was a massive job.
is there any command to make the water splash sprites less transparent?
no sorry, i might tweak the setting a bit on the next update
nice update with the textures
theres a small issue with the water when playing with project brutality
the splashing sprites seems to get replaced no idea why
sounds like my sprites have the same names as what that mod uses. ill try to change them for the next update.
