“A deserted island…a lost man…memories of a fatal crash…a book written by a dying explorer.” Two years in the making, the highly anticipated Indie remake of the cult mod Dear Esther arrives on PC. Dear Esther immerses you in a stunningly realised world, a remote and desolate island somewhere in the outer Hebrides. As you step forwards, a voice begins to read fragments of a letter: "Dear Esther..." - and so begins a journey through one of the most original first-person games of recent years. Abandoning traditional gameplay for a pure story-driven experience, Dear Esther fuses it’s beautiful environments with a breathtaking soundtrack to tell a powerful story of love, loss, guilt and redemption. Winner of 2012 IGF Excellence in Visual Art. Supported by Indie Fund.

We're toying with the idea of doing a limited collectors edition at some point post-release, with a physical disc/box etc. again, all depends on how well sales go and if we can afford to fund it. Would be nice though!

On feb 14, 2011 I asked the developers if I should wait for the new game or play the old one first. They said to wait for the new version. I am very happy they aren't making me wait over a year but, they are cutting it a little close. The game looks truly amazing.

Dear Esther was one of my favorite mods when it looked like one. Now it looks really fantastic, and I hope many people get the opportunity to experience this simple, yet elegant story.

When I played it "to" a friend, all he did when taking over was bunny-hopping and complaining there is nothing to do. The finer detail of the narration completely escaped him. I wondered then, if I could be wrong about Esther being a great game. However, now I see again that he was just an idiot ;)

To my oogling my eye it looked really amazing. Hard to say which one has better atmosphere, original or this one. 2009 mod was first of this type of storytelling/gameplaying I had fortune to stumble upon, so it has a special place in my heart nevertheless any crudeness considering mapping and/or other things. Both versions got me goose bumped! Great work indeed!
