Conquest is a real-time, multi-player space warfare game that was originally written in RATFOR for the VAX/VMS platform by Jef Poskanzer and Craig Leres in 1982. It was the early predecessor to Netrek.
This is the original gl client prior to all the fancy graphics upgrades
The major graphics upgrade (that has led to the screens on the conquest home page) started with me learning gl coding in c and replacing the ships.
Then I found a way to allow custom planet images, new phasers, torps, and every other image in the game. Next was the stats display on the left.
The stats have gone through several iterations with one custom version having text in klingon / romulan / orion fonts and even alternate alert colors (opposed to green - yellow - red for good - alert - danger.)
My last custom build even sports an scale changeable grid in the long range view.
After the graphics update, I taught myself sound coding and added sounds and music. This was probably the biggest jump for the new client.
Note: I had nothing to do with the code previous to this point.
My contributions are limited to the graphics update and sound.
Complete credits will be detailed in the first feature article.
