This is the official modded file used in the 1999 Tiberian Sun and 2000 Tiberian Sun Firestorm tournament. Although the tournament is not as prestigious as of Red Alert (which is very popular at that time), it gather enough attention from critics because of its more strategic, chess-like game play.
The tournament organization concludes that the vanilla version of the game is not suited for e-sports due to its slow phase and unbalance nature. To address the problem, they’ve issue a modded game with more desirable and enduring gameplay that don’t stray away from its core. Some changes include the rework on unspeakable accuracy of the Nod Artilleries or the ineffectiveness of the so-called anti-infantry units. However, the most important change they’ve make is the availability of Orca Transport, which define what balance is and what is not. Why? I don't have the answer, but the mod was worthy of every praise in the tournament.
On the following year, they have organized another tournament including its Firestorm expansion pack but it was lackluster from the previous one. Due because of the coding error that the Orca Transport is not functioning properly (making the game slightly unbalanced again) and the increasing competition against StarCraft, Red Alert 2 and Counter Strike – Half Life. With small interested participant, the Tiberian Sun tournament never saw another year until Tiberium Wars 7 years later.
I have managed to keep a copy of the modded files used in the tournament 20 years ago. It contains the original 1999 TIBSUN.MIX tournament file release for registered participant a month before the event. It also contains the 2000 expand01.mix file for the firestorm expansion pack but I didn’t include the 2000 TIBSUN.MIX file that comes with it because the Orca Transport is disabled. The transport has coding issue and not working as expected in the 1999 TIBSUN.MIX version but the HyperPatch project by CCHyper (sometime in 2014) has corrected the logic behind its error and works in harmony with 2000 Firestorm tournament mod.
Everything is standard except some small changes for game balancing and little cosmetic improvements on visual FX. You can use the files at it is for nostalgic tournament experience or use it for reference on your mods.
Bottomline, if you want to play the game by its original release with small balancing tweak for PvP purposes, this is for you!
Technical Issue: Originally, I didn’t do any editing to the files and released it exactly as it is to keep authenticity… However, many players complained about its very slow loading time and some suggested that I should open-save the files using XCC Mixer. After much deliberation (4 years), I did what I must to address the issue.
- Make sure that your Tiberian Sun game is working properly either its vanilla, with expansion, TFD or FreeTS or you get an Internal Error.
- Replace the game.exe, TIBSUN.MIX and expand01.mix with the one provided in the game's directory (make sure you made a back-up in-case you want to revert it back).
- If you are playing the FreeTS version, make sure you copied the patch.mix file in the same directory.
- During PvP, make sure both clients have the same mod version or you will get a Synchronization Error.
This are modded files only. It means that it is compatible with any hacks (no CD, trainers, patches, etc.) available.
