Hi everybody,
Here is very small patch to allow you to edit interface/units/buildings/maps names easily, without use modding tools.
WARNING : this file already exist and was made by Jordan long time ago. This file can be find here Forum.falloutstudios.org (old source)
Generals.str files act as Generals.csf files present in .big
In other words, as for mods, the Generals.str file takes over the official files of the game, and allows to modify with immediate effects the names of items, buildings, units, powers, armies, map name, menu, etc... without having to go through editing tools.
To do this, open the file Generals.str (choose Generals or Time H according to what you want) and search for the units, buildings, sentences etc... you want.
How to use
Open one of STR file and edit names you want. Then, save the file and drop in following location :
C:\Program Files (x86)\EA Games\Command and Conquer Generals\Data
Or
C:\Program Files (x86)\EA Games\Command & Conquer Generals - Zero Hour\Data
(According to the game where you want to edit names)
Then, start the game

So, you just took the generals.str file, that modders have been using for years, and repackaged it because, why?
This STR file is ”vanilla”. I mean that the one that modders use and i use is edited, this one no. I share this because i was in the situation some times ago where i needed to edit UI and i didnt how to do, so if people need here it is
The original file, which every modder starts from, is vanilla.
If you just wanted to post the str file in ModDB for people to find then fine, but there's no reason to repackage it as some kind of new "patch" made by you
The generals.str file is an old public resource that was uploaded by Jordan a long time ago: Forum.falloutstudios.org
Yes Zeke, if i upload it here its just for people to find it easily. Its really just to help people.
But i dont want to ”steal” anything, my goal is just to help, so thank you for the link i will place your link in description :)
EDIT : description edited with infos
Thanks man. Finally i found info. Info in modding generals is bloody limited. Thanks for the help
