What is "Black Days"?

"Black Days" is a standalone game based on the Quake Engine aimed to make a fully new singleplayer campaign, featuring revamped graphics, new weapons and items, and a lot of other features powered by the DarkPlaces sourceport for Quake.

About "Black Days"

In "Black Days" you incarnate the person of "René Gado", a latin american member of the DESP ("Departamento Especial de Sucesos Paranormales", in english "Paranormal Subject's Special Department"), that quickly after joined the Department is going to be involved in a series of strange events that would lead him to be part of the most strange mission ever: Being the savior of the entire universe.

Features of "Black Days"

Some of the features of "Black Days" will be:

  • New revamped graphics in the Quake Engine, courtesy of the DarkPlaces sourceport.
  • Totally new 50-weapons arsenal to kill the enemies in a lot of different ways.
  • Renewed HUD, courtesy of CSQC implementation.
  • New enemies from 5 different dimensions are brought into the game.
  • High-detailed maps, featuring great lighting and special effects.
  • New in-game music in OGG format, courtesy of the DarkPlaces sourceport.
  • Game entities modeled in MD3 format.
  • Video Cinematics.
  • A totally bilingual (English and Spanish) game through subtitles and menu translations.

(WARNING: This list of features is not definitive)

Progress in "Black Days"

Currently our progress is very stable and advancing progressively. In the storyboard department our game has a complete Prelude and Introduction, while the main events of the game are finised an polished in a 35%, but our writers are much more advanced in the story and they are making adjustments to public a complete new part of the game. In the textures department approximately a 70% of the textures are done and the only ones that are missing are the skins of the models. In the modeling department we have 10 weapons completely done, the René Gado's player model is also done, and the most part of the missing models are from objects and weaponry. In the mapping department our first map is done (the René Gado's Mansion) and other maps are in the work. In programming we have currently designed the weapon selection system, the 10 weapon models are already coded and we are awaiting for further implementation of CSQC and some other nifty features in QuakeC code. In the music department we just contacted a DJ who can make music samples for our game.

Showing our Progress

Although we have posted some screenshots, we are currenly organizing al lot of other images and some videos in game an we hope to upload then in the next two or three days. The devs are already taking shots of the progress in all the fields. Expect more screenshots (and videos too) soon!

This is the very first news about this project. We are proud to advance in our work because previously we haven’t enough members, and we have our chores of life.
In programming section we have a new member. Please welcome Nahuel!

He’s full of energy and he demonstrates with a new weapon system. Initially we used the ‘chain weapon system’, very stiff and don’t allow adding new weapons in every slot. Now we have more flexibility and more options to distribute it when we add more weaponry. In addition player can choose or pull down weapons in order to build a custom arsenal.

We also implemented an inventory-styled RPG system. It’s a good tool to classify items and weapons.

You just wonder what kind of weapons you will use in Black Days. Well, you will have a diverse arsenal: melee weapons, guns, shotguns, machineguns, magic weapons, explosives, sniper rifles and more. Total: 50 weapons at your service.
As you see in the screenshots we have ready Ruger Super BlackHawk, three shotguns (Spas 16, Ithaca and Ruger Red Label), fist, and the knife.

See you in the next update.

This looks incredible I cannot wait until the game becomes fully playable :D I can tell that so much work and heart was put into this, seems highly inspired by Clive Barker's Undying but this will probably turn out to be even better than an already incredible game :D

Excellent work! Keep it up bros!

In first place, thanks for follow this project.

Guys, the project isn't dead, we still alive. We are studing -academic studies- or just finding a job, and other circumstances. We have not enougth time to employ in this game, so be patient.

However, we need new people who wants to join with us. We urgently need programmers -QuakeC -.
