0 A.D. is a free, open-source, cross-platform real-time strategy (RTS) game of ancient warfare. It's a historically-based war/economy game that allows players to relive or rewrite the history of twelve ancient civilizations, from Iberia to Mauryan India, each depicted at their peak of economic growth and military prowess. Developed using Pyrogenesis, a ground-breaking new game engine custom-built to suit this project, 0 A.D. will give players a rich and entertaining real-time gaming experience.
Alpha 10 won't have working gates. However, players can be creative and create what I call "Murder Paths", which are essentially entryways through the player's wall system that no sane enemy would want to march his soldiers through. (Each one of those wall towers shoots arrows.)
Brilliant!
This looks gorgeous.
That's actually a strategy old engineers would work into their designs! Love it!
At the red fort in agra (its about 2 miles from the taj mahal and was one of two seats of mughal power, the other being the red fort of Delhi) their is a 35 degree turn after you get past the first gate through 50 meters of uphill gallery with 50 foot walls. It prevents elephants from ramming the second gate and creates a very humbling killing zone.
I think this strategy will be useful in 0 AD as well ! In age of empires your "wall towers" had no attack. In 0 AD they can have!
Similar to what you had to do in Age of Empires 1
If you look closely you might see the palisade walls by the farms, which seem to be buildable now.
As always, the progress looks impressive.
in the next alpha release (very soon) walls be drag-and-drop :D
you can also see a small battle to the right, and the towers are killing everthing :D
So we have to apply Goth stra-- Actually, they didn't have any walls at all in Age2 :D
But you should totally make one civilization not build gates at all.
Alpha 10 will include a civilization that cannot build walls at all. Its men are its walls. ;)
