Microsoft have just published a complete list of all applications that don't work correctly under SP2. Unfortunatly, there's a ton of games in the list. Including my favourite, Unreal Tournament. |

Hope you didn't install it, ShortCutMan.
That's going to isolate a lot of people.

I've had sp2 since it was in beta testing, I have only had one problem wiht games and that was due to a rougue virus making rundll32.dll not quite work properly, I fixed this and I have no porblems with any of the listed software, although it is a good thing to note that there is a number of M$ pieces of software in that lineup -- BigBird Mod DB Guy |

Why the heck not just make a list of softwares that DO work... no way I'm downloading this --

I downloaded it the second the final release was announced, but didn't install it; I thought I'd wait and see what happened first... good thing too! -- modDB▪GuyTypeThing |

Taken from the site:
So it doesn't mean all of the games are still effected. The games like Warcraft 3, Starcraft, and C&C should have already been fixed by the development workers, since they want to make sure their community continues to play their games. At least, that's what should have happened. -- "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster." |

It might fuck up a lot of stuff, but it was necessary; those programs were obviously using some bad (or at least insecure) programming practices, and were acceptable sacrifices for the sake of finally getting some security into Windows. Once patches are released for anything you use that's on the list (although unfortunately this might not happen for the older stuff) then XP SP2 is a must have. Just watch; once SP2 is widely accepted, virus counts will plummet, since most of the major ones relied on exploiting horrible flaws in Windows security that have now been fixed. -- modDB▪GuyTypeThing |

ANY programming practices on a windows platform is insecure. --

XP: SP2 is the most secure version of windows ever. Its better to sacrifice some stuff to enable you to actually be able to use your PC for more than 5 seconds without being compromised by a worm or virus -- Greg |

Greg speaks *me ph34rs What he says is true, its better to stop viruses/trojans and other problems just at the sacrifice of a few games not working. And they dont say 100% that they wont work they say its an off chance. -- uwu

pah... if you want to stop virus, worms, crashing apps, st00pid users... then take Linux. windows secure? never... not with SukPack 2, not with Mighty-Gate-Pack 6 nor something else. windows is and stays the most insecure OS around. thinking you are safe with it is a dream. EDIT: besides... what insecure programming stuff can a game have? or an office package? the only one is to use the win-api at all... - Edited By Dragonlord On Sun 15th, Aug 2004 @ 12:30:52pm |

My computers have been online for many years on Win98 / ME and they have NEVER gotten a virus (or a hacker attack, or some really malicious spyware), infact the last virus I had was the Peter virus from a very long ways back on my 386 system. Also, I haven't had virus scanners running in the background either. Why? - Don't use a vulnerable browser (IE), i was always a Netscape or Mozilla user - Edited By CheapAlert On Sun 15th, Aug 2004 @ 7:07:30am -- < insert subject games here >
