Who here is annoyed when a user profile is literally a studio's name? | Locked | |

I realize in some cases it's because the devs aren't usually on ModDB, but come on. Its like they're half-bot, half-person, their behavior usually is just pushing their product but can respond three different ways if multiple people are using it. So what do you think, do you think it's fine, a good idea, or find it just as annoying as I do? |

Well, this site IS all about pushing your product! -- Go play some Quake 2: q2server.fuzzylogicinc.com |

I personally use my studio name as my handle, but my studio name was born from my handle. |

It is a little impersonal when you have something like "SomeCompanyStudios" as the name. It makes it feel like it's an organization and not an individual. |

Here I was thinking it was a place to talk with peers, have insights, debates, and to play mods/indie games. I don't know what gave me that impression... |

The news on the front page is all PR stuff. The forums/pm's/etc. are all the non-PR stuff. That's the way I look at it. We've got the moddb.com yearly awards: all about PR & pushing products. We've got the link buttons to moddb.com so you can help promote your profile, we've got rss feeds for mod news, all for pushing your product. So while you can network and what not, it's "mod database", not facebook, linkedin, myspace, twitter, etc. It's all about getting your stuff out to people. Could be just the front page, but I'm not seeing articles/videos hosted/posted on the site about modding, assets, how to PR, securing funding, finding a publisher, etc. It's all about pushing product. -- Go play some Quake 2: q2server.fuzzylogicinc.com |

...clearly we must see different news because I've seen devs a number of times explain actually what goes into the process of things, what they're learning/learned, and if they are trying to find a publisher. |

I've got two accounts for this very reason. 1 as my studio account for when I eventually publish stuff of my own games, and 1 which I use for rants . (the one I'm on now is for rants) I think that there's nothing wrong with representing yourself as a studio, but it'd be nice if they actually put who they are in their user name. such as Studioname_firstname that way we know that they're a studio, but we also know that its still a person posting for support reasons.
