Hey guys,
I had a thought the other day, we all know of the big games companies e.g. Codemasters, Id Software, GSC Games, Sierra etc and we know all the major titles they've released e.g. Doom 3, Soldiers Heroes Of World War 2, Half-Life and we all know how difficult it would be to get a job there so what i though would be great is if we could set up "Virtual" Companies e.g. "Virtual Codemasters" , "Virtual Id Software" and make some of thier most well know games how we invision them e.g. make a fan version of Doom etc.

What does everyone think of this idea? If eveyone likes the idea, i was thinking of setting up a "Virtual GSC" as i have a Modification running - S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Red Dawn (moddb id: 3720)

Thanks,
Scotty

I'm fairly sure the companies wouldn't hestitate to pull a "Cease and Desist" for infringing on their intellectual property.

Copyright would jump in, its a good idea, but wouldn't work out.

What's that? I hear something...

*the echoing screams of lawsuits*

...it's getting closer! Hurry! Hide this idea in the closet and run! RUN!

It seems everyone is in agreement here: The companies would pull a legal lawsuit. It would be pretty cool to have a fan-made company, but you'd get a lot of hatemail and legal issues to deal with :(

well... a virtual games company itself would work... but not if you try to copy or remade work of suited companies... that's in fact a bad idea.

they can't do anything, if you change the name...its all about the name, you also have to make your own models, maps and such n such, then it would be legal, because your not using their stuff...so change the name, make your own models and maps, and you should be perfectly fine....

that in fact would work... after what i read though i undrstood it as trying to copy their game... copying is always tricky, even if you only do it as fan project.
