Yes, yes I know. There -have- been a few people to try and do this for the original Half-Life game... being a coder, I know the engine doesn’t support light detection, but it could’ve easily been pulled off with some entities. And I even know of a multiplayer mod for one of the Unreal games.

Anyway, I was just thinking about a mod to fool around on during the summer to give me something to do in-between other stuff. For now the work would be for Half-Life so we can see what direction we are headed in.

I’m not looking for some big mod team, just maybe one or two people that are able to do multiple things for this mod. I know how to code, map, model and animate just a bit. I’m learning how to skin.

I wouldn’t want this mod to purely be a thief rip off. I’ve been thinking of implementing a level system, can’t go wrong with an rpg element. Maybe make it more realistic, so that a few hits kills you off...

If you have any ideas, AND you want to maybe be a part in this add me on MSN @ max_payne_amg@hotmail.com and we could discuss about it. (Hah, I really gotta change my e-mail address)

It's called a C&D letter.

And if you do manage to pull this off, then change systems to something with more updated code (Like Unreal Tournament 2004, Splinter Cell, etc.)

Yes, I would want to change it to another engine... IF, I ever manage to pull it off.

Hmmm, is Splinter Cell really available for the PC. And is it mod-able?

Yes and I believe so.

Yup, but it's not as user-friendly as games like Half-Life, Quake, and Doom ;)

Ah well, I figured... thanks for telling me about it. Even if it was easy to mod, it wouldn’t be –too- much fun. Come on, there wouldn’t be a challenge in just altering the code, and maybe adding a few new functions.

I’m going to stick to using the HL engine, even though it’s old and it’s just a modified quake engine.

You could always come up with, like, an anime/cartoon mod in the genre of Deathmatch RPG (I don't think there are any of those). You could have your own characters, plot, etc. I would definitely play a game like that, only if you learned to balance it right so that everyone has their advantages and disadvantages.

Hmmm, that does sound original.

But there was BuzzyBots which was a cartoon mod, which was pretty much a DM with RPG elements.

All Quake engines out there and their derivatives, do NOT have a "getlight" function, so "Thief" mods are impossible.

Darkplaces Quake1 being an exception

Yah, yah I know. But it can still be done with entities. So Theif mods are not impossible on quake engines, just very hard to make.

q1 tutor bot can support "getlight" like functions quite easily :P

There's already a Thief mod, Thievery for UT...www.thieveryut.com

Make a Theif type mod for Doom. I would play. That would rock. Ecspecially if you could play coop.

What about the style? The concept about being a thief rockz but why does it have to be in the dark-ages?(there lot of shadows in the "dark"-ages???)
A thief mod in a 1920 paris would be sweet but mabye a more modern would be good as well. Movies like Oceans Eleven and Entrapment are good examples of the style of thief games I would like to see.

Probably because you can't put out torches n' crap. Everything's gone electric, then (And that's bad)

Yep... I don't think making a Stealthy mod for Half-Life would be fun... instead I've been lucky enough to get my hands on the source code of an AMAZING mod for Hal-Life.

well, if its any of the mainstream crap your in for a rude awakening :P

When the torch is activated you can use an arc of "visibility" from an entity to another entity. It's doable, just not using the same means ;)

Welp, all I ended up doing with this mod so far is coding in wall running, wall jumping, and double jumping to Half-Life... which has made it really fun. I'll probably keep working on it for fun.

And for the new mod... oh boy, it won't be mainstream. It's gonna be pretty original for Half-Life.
