I want to know everyone's thoughts on Sony's Welcome back program.

Do you think the 5 ps3 games and 4 psp titles available are a good choice? Do you agree with the PSPlus membership?

My opinion, it's a nice effort but I already own all of the ps3 titles and I 3 out of 4 psp titles. Not to mention after 30 days everything you purchased with PLUS will become invalid unless you keep paying for it.

Anyone else with opinions?

All games have popular sequels, the membership is a limited demo. Its a ploy to make some cash.

The movies suck (I own the one, and don't want to watch either of the others).

I wanted InFamous, but I already had LittleBigplanet. I was going to get Wipeout HD, but then I went out of the page for the PS3 games, and it kriffing closed the option as if I had downloaded it (at least InFamous was the only one I honestly cared about).

Also, DLC, from what I understand, yer allowed to keep without PSPlus (so thus, I get free dlc for my demo rank-limiting version of MAG). Frankly, I've wanted Plus so that I could do videogame trials of Assassins' Creed II, Borderlands, and one or two other games they offer for you to try.

Frankly though, they could have offered some better games. Red Faction Guerilla, Flower, Fat Princess, and a few other games would have been preferable.

I don't have a PSP, but I downloaded the PSP games anyway (ModNation: Racers and Killzone) in case some day I get a PSP just for the heck of it.

Frankly, I'm generally content, but after you think about it for longer than a few minutes, it's kind of a cheap return for the fact they screwed up so majorly.

@ Paradigmthefallen I agree on the games. I would have liked the choice of getting one "premium" game like infamous, LPB and the like. And on top of that, you get 2 "indie" games like Flower, flow, echo chrome and such.

@henley I also agree on the the plus membership being more of a ploy to make more money then an actual apology

Eh, I'm gonna use PSPlus to play Oddworld and game trials.

When it's gone, I won't really shed a tear.

The fact they let a massive security hole go unchecked, that they repeatedly failed to meet deadlines -they set-, and the fact that people were switching to 360s in droves gave them no reason to try to give out something free? Frankly, I'm starting to wonder how they're going to make up for the customers they lost.

We gamers are a fickle folk.

They've got plenty of reasons, I'm saying that we are not entitled to them (as in, you can't really complain about it).
I HOPE Sony gets back on it's feet - I like them.

I do hope Sony gets back on its feet. They support games like Heavy Rain and InFamous. However, your ferventness in defending them seems... a little stronger than I expected from anybody at this point. You seem to be missing a key thing -- most of what they offered is to generate new profit (LBP 1 and InFamous 1 encourage people to buy InFamous 2 and LBP 2).

It's all marketing, frankly. I'm just glad I get something free in the process.

moci wrote: Mmm, how am I strongly supporting them? All I'm saying is that they give stuff away for free and we shouldn't ask for more or complain that it's not a game you really want. I rarely go online with my PS3, and I've never bought from the online store. So I didn't really had anything bad happen to me, which is my I'm supporting them - there are enough people piggy-backing this to get the most out of them already.

Obviously they are not going to give away the latest and greatest, they are not a charity.

But you were arguing we shouldn't get anything at all unless we had people still credit cards from us (which is frankly worth more than a couple of games, I'd wager. The only way they're gonna make up with that is their new plan to protect people's info, even though I doubt half as many people will even use their credit cards now).

My first three games on my PS3 were from the PSN, and you're basing your argument on personal preference. Most of us would have been fine with -one- game as long as we had the choosing. Plenty of people have said "just 30 dollars of credit for PSN would be fine". They would have actually lost less money by doing so, but they want to try and get people into Playstation Plus now, so that's why they're doing what they're doing.

The matter is of all the people who had to not have full functionality of many of their games. While Oblivion and Heavy Rain gamers weren't effected, people who play MAG (such as myself), Killzone 3, Resistance 1-2, Fat Princess (that's a PSN game -very- popular, since you apparently don't get on much), the newest demos (when the PSStore came back (my first targets were InFamous 2 and Red Faction: Armageddon demos -- not freebie stuff), the Uncharted games, and other games that featured some kind of multiplayer component.

So based on what you're telling me, all these people who felt snubbed should just be happy that we're getting older games that over half the Playstation 3 users likely own at this point? Frankly, as I said "30 dollars of credit" or what some of us have suggested. Most of the time, people don't even say they wanted Plus for free (I just wanted it for the Game Trials and free DLC), and would have been happy with less, if they had been given a choice.

He just said he's done debating it.

And in getting the whole PSN back... I'd say it took at least 6 weeks to two months. If Xbox LIVE had done that, Microsoft would be even in more hot water than what Sony got in.

That's because we're paying Microsoft for such esteem perks such as not having our passwords stored in unencrypted files and without firewalls.

It is when a broad array of the services available on the Ps3 require internet connectivity to be able to use. It devalues the product when they are not available, and online play is a small part of that parcel. Some Ps3 games require online activation, others only work online. My Ps3 hasn't been used since PSN went down, because nothing I'd use it for has been available.

Even ModDB does better than that.

aye, ModDB is easily more trustworthy than Microsoft.

And also -- yes you may pay to keep your passwords with one or two extra layers of security -- but you have to pay just to play with people, and play some demos and download certain XBLA games. Playstation Plus is called PLUS for a reason. They consider some things just a common necessity.

**ll, even Nintendo has free multiplayer, and they're generally behind in the times when it comes to console network services. The only reason I might even consider getting a 360 and subscribe would be for the TV service (if it's any good). That, and maybe Halo. Fable III I can get on PC. Gears of War I could care less about

I'll stick to my console that lets me play 256 player battles for free, Heavy Rain, and InFAMOUS.

Xbox Live's online experience is however considerably more refined and well integrated than that of the Ps3. I do much prefer it - my Ps3 only gets outings for Ps3 exclusives.

I didn't have to purchase a device from ModDB/Desura in order to access ModDB/Desura.

No offense to the moddb crew, but should both names be targeted by the same group I'd put more faith in Microsoft's experience. They've been targeted so many times and have been able to weather the storm I'm sure they've learned a few things over the last two decades. But if you contrast both to Sony we're not even talking about extra layers of security, but even the basic layers of security. For the time being with their service I really don't feel like using my credit card to purchase anything else. I'm not sure where I'll ever find the daily 14 cents required to play the 360 online (I'll start with the couch, or that big jar or change), but I have all three systems and even had a PSN+account prior to this hacking incident (the most I got out of it was Mushroom Wars, which would have been cheaper and lasted longer if I just bought it instead, and the Brotherhood beta, which never even managed to connect to a multiplayer game). PSN gets the job done, XBL Gold is a convenience worth its price (with bonuses like every single arcade game requiring a demo so you can try before you buy, something I put to heavy use that the other systems seem to lack).

Wii's online capability is just terrible with the friendcode system; it's free because no one would pay for a service like that. It's a shame that it even lacks communication, as that takes all the fun away with trying to play a game like Smash Brothers with friends (it has a lot of multiplayer oriented games that should be fun online, but aren't). It's nothing to put on a pedastool. I hear they're aiming to fix that with Wii-U.

Amber is making the point that Desura is free, thus people aren't going to be raging about it.

Playstation Network-enabled devices (even if you're going from a -used- price range) are above 100 dollars. PS3 slim costs 300, with a discount price for used of usually only 250. PSPs range from 120-ish to 250 (or 300, if you count Vita).

There. Now I'm done with this bloody discussion.
