Gonna grab it overnight. Thank god it's not a huge download (I've seen demos get up to the gigs, and that's just unnecessary). -- "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster." |

I just finished playing the singleplayer version of the demo. First of all, hot damn, thats exactly what a demo should be. There is a lot of playtime packed into that download, so I definitely recommend anyone who is considering this game to give it a try. Next, while I had some misgivings about the presentation in the beginning, I really enjoyed the demo. Tommy is a great main character, despite the fact that "I don't want to live on the Reservation" seems to be half of his depth. A lot of his comments and responses to things in the game felt really natural, which is often hard for most game actors to pull off. The portals and grav paths really make things crazy, to the point where I can't wait to see what all they throw at you with them in the final game. I do hope, however, that things wont remain so ridiculously linear throughout. Maybe this is just the extreme close quarters of the early section of the game, but I felt led along a path a little more than I should have. I would also like to see more character building stuff happening at the beginning before the abduction, but man, once you get pulled into the ship, things really take off. Did anyone else like the part where you find out what is happening to some of the people? That creeped the hell out of me... But anyway, yes, a fantastic demo. I haven't played multiplayer yet, but I'm definitely going to buy the final version when it comes out. Edited by: JoeX111 |

The demo was cool and the gun concepts were great but what they actually did just felt like an mp5, a laser rifle / freeze gun, and a grenade. However the 'fighting for your life' thing and the whole which side is up / portal stuff was pretty sweet. I also like the amount of interactive objects at the beginning.. I owned at Rune Man! |

Other than Oblivion. Anyway, I thought the demo is really good. Excellent innovative use of gameplay. Fortunately my computer is good enough to handle it at a decent framerate. Edited by: RatoN |

I got a fantastic framerate with all the settings pushed up, and it all looked really nice. Anyway, that aside, the game wasn't too bad at all. I was actually sympathetic with the main chatacter's cause. While I didn't see a whole load of depth to him, his one-liners were funny and I suppose the flexible character was meant so that the player could insert themselves into the character a little bit (no, not like that...). The levels didn't seem linear at all, which is largely thanks to the portals and gravity and all that jazz. While they were actually fairly linear, they gave an excellent illusion of freedom, something which I dig. One thing I loved was the Spirit Walk, something which could have been implemented better, but kicked arse anyway. I thought that it lead to some awesome puzzles, but it would have been really nice to see the ability to bypass some puzzles, solve them without using the Spirit Walk and little things to make the game more free. That concept has huge potential, as does the thing that happens when you die, I loved that. Anyway, overall, I'd say it's an awesome demo, and looks to be a kick-ass game, one which I am going to get on release, methinks. |

Can't stand this game one bit. Looks very polished (most of the time). Affects look good, voice acting is fine. Problem is that I got motion sickness as soon as I was beamed up to the alien ship. I stuck with it till after I got the first gun and went through a couple portals, but at that point I was ready to throw up. Felt bad the rest of the afternoon. I won't be buying this one. |

Nah, makes sense. Gave me a weird feeling of vertigo Singleplayer was amazing nonetheless. I'll buy it when the price goes down since I'm so dirt poor right now. |

I loved the disorientating stuff - but then I'm a Killer Loop addict, and thus can stomach that sort of thing (I even play it at 200% speed ) |

Yeah..about that chain stopping right after your grandpa's death. Why doesn't the girl die right after when you start it up again? |
||
Jun 23 2006 Anchor | ||
Because they probably have plans for her instead of letting her die? That sounds pretty plausible. I finished play the demo a few hours ago, and it was great. I admit, there was some stuff that caused me to become dizzy, but overall, they really hit home in the presentation; especially the beginning. I also thought the giant bit was a nice touch. Can't wait to see more. I'll have to get it, too. -- "He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster." |

best damn demo I've ever played, except for Doom Shareware & HL Uplink. But, this looks to be my new #1 game of all time if the rest of the game hold out after the demo. It's got everything! -- Go play some Quake 2: q2server.fuzzylogicinc.com |
