It's really a stand-alone game using Q3 open source, but what the hell. I've taken a gameplay mode from the game Sin and enhanced it. It's the mode where you must get one kill with each weapon. For those of you who aren't familair with it I'll explain. Everyone starts with the same weapon, when you get a kill, you move to the next weapon, get another kill, move to the next weapon, etc. When you get a kill with the last weapon, you win. But, if you die, you start over with the first weapon. Naturally, the weapons get progressively harder. We have enhanced it by creating a teamplay variation, along with the FFA mode. We have also added a twist by having a unique weapon set for each map. The maps represent different time periods and locations, with weapons appropriate to the setting. Some locations are fictional, some are real. They may be past, present or future. For example, our first map is the "Temple of Kali", based on a real setting from India in the 1920s. The second is the "OK Corral", featuring Tombstone, Arizona in 1870. The third is "Van Helsing" and features a village in the Carpatian mountains and Dracula's castle, from the movie. We also have maps of a modern shopping center, an Amazon river crossing and several others. In all, we will have 8 maps and weapon sets. There is also very nice bot support for those of you without decent internet connections. The entire game will be free for the DL. Nothing to buy. Here's a couple early images from the first two maps (Temple of Kali and OK Corral). The others don't have texture sets created yet.

That's awesome, I look forward to it. But out of curiosity, where did you get the full source for Q3A - di you buy it? As far as I'm aware the free version isn't available yet |

The open-source version of Q3 is available next month (maybe February), but we are able to do 90% of our coding without it, and have. The only thing we need the open-source for is to distribute it as free game, so you don't have to buy anything, and to expand the number of weapons allowed (we have about 50). Each map gets a unique weapon set, and I'm not kidding when I say "unique". We got the regular assortment of firearms, but we also have things like a spear, blowgun, voodoo doll, glave, crossbow, magic spells, etc. Anyhow, The base code is written and the bot support is working. The game is great fun to play, even using modified Q3 stock weapons. It's not as easy to win as you might think. The first weapon is always a long ranged sniper type weapon. When you get to that second last or last weapon, you usually have 3 snipers looking for you. You have to be sneaky and smart and sort of sneak in "under the radar". We played a test game and I won with 17 kills. The 3 other players had 60, 86, and 104 kills. I won because I suck. They didn't consider me much of a threat until it was too late. The teamplay mode is even more interesting, especially with a few bots on each team, though I swear the damn bots cheat. You can read more about the game and other play modes, as well as see what we are doing, in our forums. I'm not a big fan of full web sites, especially for a small game. We are a small team and I can use the people a web site requires elsewhere. But we have public and private forums at: www.alliedassault.us.. Just look for the Mayhem project in the forum index. Come see us and if you have an idea for a map (remember it needs 7 weapons that go with it), feel free to suggest something. We still have a few maps we haven't decided on yet because we couldn't come up with a weapon set for the settings we thought of. |

I thought it would be about end of february, lol, working with the 1.32 dev source like me then ? I'm also considering going standalone, it makes things so much easier for the mod fans, and much groovier for the project overall. When I get back online, I'll go through and populate your forums, your project interests me slightly, especially as I can see where you're coming from. Keep it up |

I suppose I'll have to go looking for another engine, now. Damn! ET engine looked promising but the amount of crap code in it will make things tough and no bot support. Edited by: Balr14 |

You could make it a regular mod and use hl2... also I still do not see where you answered about the site... but then again I am retarded. Edited by: Wilhelm_III |

You know, if q3a doesn't go open source for awhile, you can always use the Q3Fusion engine and still develop under q3a's vm. -- < insert subject games here >

If you were wondering about Q3 source release... I wouldn't recommend switching from Q3. Q3 is a great engine because of the way it runs at a ridiculously high framerate under almost all circumstances --
