Hi all! :D

I have a idea for a mod: GTA IV: Source. It's like GTA IV on the Source Engine. I'm posting this, because i don't know how to make mods, ok, i know but source SDK isn't working for me, and my inernet is too slow for uploading. If some modders, modelers and mappers could help, it would be very nice. I think the only things which the mod needs are maps, models, new weapons and maybe a mod to make the car destruction realistic. I think the haredest part is to make the car destruction, and make it so, that it wont lag too mauch. The car destruction doesn't need to be too good, because it's still the Source Engine, and to the engine that GTA IV uses, and the GTA IV engine is much newer too. Oh wait, i forgot one thing, it's not very important, but still it could be in the mod: it's better AI for the NPC's, so that the police( enemy npc ) wouldn't shoot you as it sees you. It should only then if you shoot someone, but not just the Ignore Player command, i mean that ONLY the police should ignore you, not any other NPC. Sorry for my bad english, i never learnt it. Thanks for your attention. :)

Why work to mod an existing game into another engine when you could play the existing game?

Don't spend your energy to make an existing game, spend your energy on making a new game instead.

I don't want to come of as rude or anything, but I just don't see the point.

The point is to get out the Maximum out of the Source Engine, and make GTA IV: Source playable for people who own any source game or source SDK base so they don't need to buy a new game, of course GTA IV: Source wont be as good as the original GTA IV, but still thanks for your attention. ;)

One tip, don't try to mix 2 already existing games, instead do something like GTA: Source

Its not possible

there was someone who tried to do a similar project but when he hitted the source limit map size it wasnt nowhere as big as GTA

That's a thin line to legally walk on.

"i don't know how to make mods " clearly you also don't know why to either

lol, sorry for late answer, but i BARELY do know ho to make mods, i did a HL2 mod, but not even thinking about uploading this because of slow internet and it's..... pretty shitty, but yeah, i think this idea is pretty dead..

This sounds like a situation where the mod is always going to be worse than the original game. How do you plan to make a game better than GTA IV, and who will play it over the original ?

One of most idiotic things to do is a remake of game on another engine "because it would be cool". A game like GTA IV with insane amount of content. GTA IV had a budget of 100,000,000$ and some snotnose who himself admits knows nothing about modding comes and thinks he has made the greatest discovery by having such idea.

These people clearly understand nothing about modding. No, they understand nothing about games. Actually I don't think they understand anything.

Wow, late answer again XD But I don't really want to be awesome or something because I have this idea, I was just thinking of it :D It would be fun you know? :) And I'm not saying that I want a mod which should be better than the game, and I know a big load of shit about games ;) I know how to mod games such like GTA IV, GTA San Andreas, HL2 CS:S etc. And how can you call me a "snothose" Noy, honestly, In my opinion you're a "snothose" because look how you talk, do you have like problems? With your brain? What about going to a nurse, or just relax. I mean you don't have to be rude like you a 9 years old kid who sits at his PC or console 24/7. And as I said, this mod Is idea Is probably dead, just wanted to see what people think ;)

No, you were publishing it in the internet. That is different from thinking of something. You thought it was worth sharing and you would get praise for your idea you thought was great.

And I'm not saying that I want a mod which should be better than the game

Yes you were. Right over here:

Oh wait, i forgot one thing, it's not very important, but still it could be in the mod: it's better AI for the NPC's, so that the police( enemy npc ) wouldn't shoot you as it sees you.

Your idea was to not only to re-create the game on Source (which alone is ridiculous idea as I've told before) but to improve on it.

I know a big load of shit about games

If you compare to yourself to your grandparents. But around here, no you don't. Everything you say suggests you lack core understanding about how games work and what does certain mechanics require. Don't even start me on your understanding on modding or developing games. Few highlights:

I think the only things which the mod needs are maps, models, new weapons and maybe a mod to make the car destruction realistic.

Yeah, no. A game like GTA requires a ton of coding, voice acting and the sheer number of people working on such project needs a heavy project management, directing and HR staff department.

I think the haredest part is to make the car destruction, and make it so, that it wont lag too mauch.

Yeah, no. Hardest part about making GTA on Source would not be that. It would be perhaps the huge open world environment which is actually impossible on Source engine as it is.

And how can you call me a "snothose"

Because you are such a novice it's impossible for you to see the situation as it is so I'm going to use a comparison. What would you call someone who storms in a hospital, calls some surgeons and nurses to join him, and hastily explains how he wants to make his pet dog into human so he finally gets a girlfriend. And how the hardest part is making the boobs realistic.
