Why are they always for the Halo trial? Why don't people just buy the damn game? I still don't understand..

The OP's screen name makes me too paranoid to open that site.

Doesn't sound like I'm missing out on much though.

Not necessary. Don't post if you're just going to be a jerk. I'll leave this open for anyone who has real questions.

I don't really understand it either. Isn't Halo CE moddable, or is it just my imagination?

Probably because they're not old enough to get M rated games. Heh

Lots of idiots on the Halo Trial online (that just stand there waiting for death, tking you for the sniper rifle, etc)

I think Bungie made the mistake of including Blood Gulch with the demo. If you put the "best" parts of a game into its demo, the people who are choosing that game just for those parts won't have to buy it. Especially ports like this.

So what, modding Halo Trial doesn't completely break the EULA any more?

As I remember Scott telling me, unless Microsoft asks for them to be removed they will be allowed. Weird I know, but true.

Don't forget that Halo Trial has the exact same Eula for Halo PC/CE. The only problem Bungie has against modding trial is, well you probably guessed it, ripping material from CE and PC.

I've kept on modding Halo Trial for a while and enjoyed it because of its severely limited atmosphere (only the BYOM and The Island is rebuilt as of yet). With Halo PC modding, the options are nearly limitless, every single player level (except d40) can be rebuilt (can be converted to multiplayer as well.

There are two different types of modders and gamers for Halo Trial: those who like to experiment, and see how far they can push a mod under such restrictions, (sword, phenomena, uzi9mm, NS, wasserbrunner, ect). Modding Halo Trial for some is how really experienced modders prove to others that their tricks didn't involve PMI or anything from CE (though a l337 few could even bypass that restriction).

Then, as can be predicted...the freeloaders and their supporters. Too many people come onto the game looking for hacks, cracks, cheats, gametypes, anything to get everything they would get for PC. They're not insterested about Halo, they don't have a clue or care for what the Flood are and what Halo was designed to do, and they have zero enthusiasm for Halo 3.
Some even ask me questions about how to rip material from PC/CE to trial, though I tell them they could just solve the whole issue and buy the game for $19.99 at Best Buy, they say "nah". If you're serious about modding, I mean like creating something extradordinary for Halo, then save up for the game! If you don't have that kind of motivation, then you certainly won't have the patience to read tuts, experiment, and try out ideas in modding. The only thing you'll be able to do is switch some skins, create a log mod, and make a flying warthog. *feel free to comment about the irony of this statement, I will be more than happy to reply*

Oh, by the way, CE is for map MAKING and for modding. I tried to map make, but I feel I need a team of at least 3 people to do it. Or...I could spend 6 months learning how...

Yes I have Halo PC and CE, and I have modded trial, pc, and ce (CE semi-successfully, however I failed at mapmaking).

Sorry about the double post, but I cannot edit mine and this is rather important. 3scriptykidd3,

GIVE CREDIT WHERE CREDIT IS DUE!

Mention that you used Sword's and Phenomena's BYOM for your mod. Just because this isn't a Halo modding site doesn't exempt you from this Halo (and universal)Law.

Jan 24 2007 Anchor

I guess it's also more convenient to mod a demo so that anyone can download that free demo and try out the mod..

Jan 24 2007 Anchor

Yes, and it's interesting, most of the trial'ers are way too young to be playing the game anyway...
They know it too. So what's horrible is when they're asking you and everyone else in a Halo fanatic modding site where to find hacks, cheats, and whatever... I fear this cycle will be carbon copied with the Halo 2 demo: yes, I've heard it will be the Heretic level and Coagulation. Hopefully this time Bungie will rebuild the map completely differently from the full version, instead of inserting extra hex and swapping certain values. Also, I hope that the Promethus project follows suit and ensures that Halo 2 trial maps will not be modded with their program. The halo trial controversy was an unfortunate one, hopefully we can prevent another and at the same time gain more people's interest in Halo modding.

Not exactly. Although the license agreement may be identical word for word, it explicitely states that modifying the product without tools specifically given for it is in violation. The tools specifically state they're for Halo CE, and therefore are not for the trial. Either way it doesn't matter, because Scott had the last word.

Microsoft is too busy hunting down people that help their sales instead of the ones that obliterate them.

Actually, HEK isn't used for trial, most trial modders probably haven't ever heard of it. On the other hand, Monoxide C's HMT 3.5 has drawn both PC'ers and Trial'ers attentions. HMT was originally designed for PC, but unfortunately, Monoxide didn't make it trial-proof. I don't think he intended to though, in his 3.5 version. The 3.5 was specially designed to improve PMI'ing, and had extra measures and coding to prevent it's rebuilding features from being used for Halo Trial. The main reason he blocked this out was that Microsoft and Bungie wouldn't care if you mod the trial game, as long as you don't rip retail material off of PC or CE. If he hadn't secured HMT against trial PMI's, I doubt Bungie would've allowed HMT to be distributed throughout the net. HMT wasn't approved by Bungie that I know of, but as long as he made sure it couldn't be used to steal retail material, they would let it slide.

I tried using hek and quickly found out it works only for full version. BTW, i use hmt v3.5 for halo trial modding and it works just fine. I'm also using a map that works for halo trial and for sparkedit (normally it only works for full version). This is due to the modder, Naked Chick, rebuilding the halo trial map. He rules! BTW, I don't get that much time on the pc, so pardon me if my website (freewebs.com/myhalotrialmodz) isn't to your liking. I'm open to any and all suggestions

Sorry for double posting, but i'd like to thank Chunky for keeping the post open. Thanks for the info everyone, maybe i'll buy the full version, but i won't really be able to play often.

echoranger, I didn't realize that i used Sword and Phenomena's BYOM. Where should I give credit? Which mod of mine are you talking about? I will give credit if that's what you're saying, but I didn't know I was using their BYOM's. If I'm not giving credit to someone, plz tell me and I'll correct the problem. Sorry, for posting so much, I'll stop, but this is important, as echoranger mentioned.

Man, I must be an idiot.

Fixed it. - Chunky
