ok, so i just started a mod about a week ago, & for quite a whiole ive been at the complex storyline, music & concept art.

im annoyed because it was banned & there are some rare mods on this website that are like really retarded, as in, not even started, with like a really sucky story, & nothing exept like one paragraph of text, which probably has half a dozen spelling mistakes etc, but yet, my mod, which i have been working on for a while, has only been uploaded on here for a week & is totally appropriate, mature & active, gets banned, no questions asked.

i got given the xplination was something like because i dont have a website for my mod, & that a "forum mod profile" or something isnt acceptable / enough.

Even if i had a website with just concept art or something devoted & put aside for my mod, that would be ok though or something.

dont get me wrong please, but i am a little dissapointed, & while me being quite unexperienced & "noobish" at anything mod related really, & putting in a lot of hard work already & at one point i was really enthusiastic about giving this a try, now, this has kinda totally crushed my enthusiasm to continue..

not to mention i just had one of my hard drives with like 100gb of data die on me yesterday, & at the moment, i cant afford to pay for an official website for my mod, nor do i have any knowlege of any decent website hosts or even where to begin with making a website.

can anyone please give me some feedback/advice & explain things a little more clearly for me?

sorry to rant.

thankyou!

I PM'ed you about this, responding to your inquiry. The person who banned your mod most likely stated why he did in form of a comment on your mod profile. Anioids Projekt 1946 - 2166

The reason is because Soundclick.com has nothing to do with the mod

Exactly. Your mod will be re-authorized once you have a working website with information about your mod, and maybe even media, news and so on.

well, that contains most of the music featured in my mod :P

well then can anyone please point me out to a good free simple user friendly website creator / hoster?

Dec 6 2006 Anchor

A paid website would get you that more professional look and would attract more people to help you and join your team. www.freewebs.com is a pretty basic and newbie-friendly webhost provider. I'm pretty much against free websites, blogs and such as mod websites though. A paid website would show that you're ready to dedicate yourself and spend some money on your mod, free websites gives me the impression that it's just a side thing, something to do in your sparetime.

The latter are the ones that usually don't get too succesful.

You could probably start out with a free website and meanwhile search for a webdesigner to create a real website and later maybe pay for a host?

yeah excellent, thankyou very much..

il get to work on that..

yeah i just really cant afford it for a bit this close to xmas & the such..

though i dont mind myself if it is a free site really..

also, just out of curiosity, can you give me any feedback on my mod so far? :P :)

Dec 6 2006 Anchor

You might not mind a free website, but the more talented modders around here will see it very 'noobish'. And I don't think you will get as much support with a free website but it is only my opinion. People don't want to waste their time on mods that will die. I'm not saying your's will, but a good website is essential for succes.

what game? Gamespy's planet sites offer free hosting if you qualify. They however require you have an example site setup. Just setup a free website as an example.

don't go dissing the free hosting eigther. Many, MANY GREAT mods used, and still use, free hosting. Plus it's free. If you have the $$ to waste of server space, bandwitdh, etc. I'd suggest you use that to "pay" yourself to work on your mod instead of hosting that's freely available. Sure www.yourmodhere.com or www.yourteamnamehere.com looks great, but WTF do i care if there's nothing to show?

SO you're putting in a lot of hard work and are disappointed? Aw, maybe you're doing it wrong! Making a mod (or a film as that's what I do) is meant for the long distance runners. It isn't about huffing and puffing and going wild at work for two weeks or a month. Modding really only pays out on the long term, that is when your mod is finished.
And in order to achieve that you need to be more than feeling crazily proud of anything you achieved in such a little time. You're gonna need a plan to finish your mod and a starting point is: how to get a mod authorized on moddb. You should really know beforehand (from reading) that you need a dedicated website for your mod, before complaĆning about anyone being unfair.
I'm sorry if I sound pissed off, because I'm not really angry or anything. I just see 99% of the mods fail and never get finished and I blame the Devs for not having any kind of plan or even idea about how to get anything finished. I think It's fine to work a lot on your ideas, I do that myself too, but if you have (or will have) responsibility for a team, you need to be more than just that... It needs a vision to get a mod started, but a plan to get it finished. That's basically all I want to say.
You should have read and understood how to get your mod authorized on moddb, because the only reason for your initial disappointment lies in your own failure. Make plans for the future and don't just throw all the creativeness you got inside together, because this will make a mess out of anything - even a mod.

sorry for the double / triple post...

hey sinking, yeah i guess now i think about it you are correct & i agree..

i was still kinda annoyed tho, weather it be at myself or not... :P

anyways, thanks for your advice, & yeah i will be as respionsible & reliable as possible to my team, if & when i get one :)

but uhm, im very unkowlegeable, which means, basically, i will be the one creating the blueprints of everything, concepts & concept art, storyline & info, music & sound.. apart from that, i cant do all that much at all, which is why i need someone very patient, generous & willing to do a lot of work & try & teach me something more.

thanks again..

You can learn how to model (wings3d is free, Blender is free), I learned it only because I used to have your abilities and somebody here told me a while ago, I oughta get my ass up and do some work. Modeling is fun, though it might not be for anyone. But there are lots of ways to help and they aren't all as difficult as it initially seems.

#And its good you got "kinda annoyed", because otherwise I'd have to call you a wimp without backbone. You gotta fight for your projects, even if your the only one who believes in them. But sometimes you need to realize when an idea isn't good enough or you haven't got the means to produce it. I like your attitude, but I dislike your avatar. Wuhaarrharr

Never mind me, I'm often giving a little tough love, but its love for my m8'S at Moddb nonetheless!

Cheers,
SinKing
