Essentially what i want to do is make a thread where people can brainstorm ideas of things to model, and i might add some of the better ideas to my post. Good luck!

Ok, i'll start: A pencil

rather then picking off others idea you should develop your own.

Try developing your own creativity as you develop your modeling skills

Most people model for a purpose, if it is something they just archive after they are done there is little to no motivation for the artist.

I think it's good training actually. Yeah its good to develop your own creative skills and all, but sometimes that's not your job. Sometimes your job is to model a toaster, dumpster, or a chair. If you're stuck in a bit of an artist's block, at least you'd still be able to sharpen your technical skills through something like this way.
I would think this is the same reason various art communities do things such as speed modeling and 3d fight clubs. (Though part of the benefit is having a new category to model regularly, and being have to see the results from other modelers to see how they approached the same topic).

Well if its my job, as in I am getting paid, then there is a purpose for me to model it. Money is the motivation. However if you just want me to model a dumpster, it will just be an extra file in my project folder. Speed modeling and 3d fight clubs are good excuse to get yourself motivated. If you have to ask someone to give you someone to model on then you wont enjoy because you are probably bored. I know how that feel.

I think Cryid understands what i want to do. Essentially i just want to collect a list of things so that people can come here when they just want to practice. Also, what's a 3D fight club?

I got a few:
Airplanes, cars, motorcycles, trucks, trains, tanks, ships, firearms, melee weapons, and of course; humans.
Not only are all of these well documented, but you can find a lot of blueprints for them on the internet.
They all come in a very large variety; there is thousands of options.

And if you want to be creative and lets say design your own motorcycle. It would be a good idea to draw and model a few real motorcycles to give you a better idea of what you need to put into it. Making your final design much better.

A naked man do this 21 times
A naked woman do this 42 times
Now you can model humanoids without orthogonal references!

Although you have some good ideas, i was thinking more of prop-type items, in my opinion, modelling guns gets boring after awhile. So i was thinking of things like garbage cans or pencils.

Come on now. Pick something that isn't a cylinder with a bunch of edge loops added to it!
(no i'm just messing around theres nothing wrong with those choices.)

Still you got a point... perhaps if he tries to make a futuristic pencil could be more interesting xD
