Hey guys,

Some might know me and others wont so ill introduce my self. My name is mark and im the lead coder for Golden Eye Source. Now we were planning on implmenting an auto update feature for ges but that got me think of a bigger and better idea. Why dont i make an update tool that will work for all mods on the moddb website?

Basicly this is what it will be. A small program that works kind of like steam. Runs in the system try and every time you logon (or time based) it does a look up to a feed from moddb. If it finds that a mod you have installed has a new version number out, it asks you if you want to update it. Then if yes, finds a mirror to download it from (maybe a banner for the server host) downloads it, runs the update script and then it will be done.

Future versions might include a mod browser (finds what games are on your comp and lists compatable mods) and maybe a tie into the mod news page.

Now for this to work i would need some help for the moddb with the feed intergration and file hosting but the rest i should be able to code my self.

What you think?

y halo thar lodle
There was a program called Vapor that created by Valtrain, the lead coder from HL2CTF. They were brought out by another company I believe, who are now using it to keep C&C Generals mods updated. Something like that.

Yes well i was thinking using this for all mods, source, ut and any other games that is wanted. Thus if guys at moddb help it can be linked into mods on here and be easy to use for every one.

It's still around. All you have to do is ask to have your mod included, and keep them up to date.

I didn't really liked vapour back in the days nor do I like crosus that much tbh. But the basic idea behind it is good.
Anyhow, check your pm box lodle

Something like modjive for all mods would be cool but the problem I assume would be keeping the support updated and having reliable servers

Thats why i want it to be integrated into moddb so then all mod makers have to do is update there mod profile and maybe upload a install script and then it will show on the autoupdater.
