Hello, I am looking for some people to help make a mod with me for half-life 2 episode 2. I have a basic idea on what the storyline will be and what the environments will be, but I will never be able to it alone.

I need someone that has had experience making re-skins for models and making models, someone that can create custom music and ambient sounds, a few mappers to help with all the NPC placement, scripting, level design etc, and someone that can easily create scripts if we need them.

The basic storyline is that you end up in a mineshaft, tied up and unable to move in a mining cart. 2 figures come up to you and explain why your there, after they are finished talking they kick the cart, sending down the mine shaft. You then have to make your way back up to the mine shaft and through an abandoned train station.
This mod shall be called: "abandoned" as you were kicked down a mine shaft and left to die. This title and the storyline are just rought sketches at the moment, they might change later on.

If you are interested please send me a private message on the steam forums and an example of your work, so I know if you are the person I'm looking for, or you can reply to this post, but I would prefer a private message. Or, you can contact me via my steam account or reply to this post right here :)

A list of needed assets and such would be nice.

May 20 2011 Anchor

-Level designers
-Model designers
-Music composers
And that is about it :)
Also, I will be participating by making some levels, so the team won't be doing all the work by themselves, I will be helping alot.

They asked for a list of assets, not positions. What are your skills?

May 21 2011 Anchor

my skills are creating maps in hammer, since I have spent a lot of time creating maps and exploring the level editor, I have an A in GCSE art, so I'm very creative in my ideas and I know how to direct them towards a project and I am a team player. And that is it. That is me, if that's what your talking about, but the list of assests I need are;
people with creative talent that can easily think of good ideas and explain them properly and clearly,
individuals who can create complex levels in the level editor "hammer" and can also script "NPCs",
I need talented re-skinners who can apply themselves to their work with a passion to create fantastic, original and unique skins,
and lastly, a Sound and music Composer, someone who can create an ambient sound clip and music to give the mod a unique feel and emphasize the ambiance.

If I have got the wrong end of the stick in what your "list of assets" meant, then I am sorry... AGAIN :S

Assets meaning things you will need the workers to create.

May 21 2011 Anchor

OH! sorry :S I would need workers to create new music and ambient sound, new models, new skins for existing hl2 models, a few custom scripts and a little help with the level design

I meant a list of ambient sounds, models, skins, and scripts that would be needed.

new skins for the headcrab zombies so they look like real zombies but mines and maintenance men, new skins for the crowbar (mining pick), ar2 (a kind of rivet gun), SMG ( just a re-skinned SMG, preferably a damaged or dirty skin) , pistol (glock pistol) and the grenades (old russian anti-tank grenades), a new skin for a citizen which would be ragged, clothes torn, dirty, wild, sounds that echo ( vast expanse of the mine) new music for action and eerie areas, to give a perfect alone element, scripts such as new gestures for the re-skinned citizen and face poser to custom sounds by a voice actor (which I may already have).
New models such as rocks, technical equipment, a new MASSIVE generator which is part of the storyline and a special heavy blast door which is for areas where you cannot return to once it's closed, so it needs to be foreboding.

You have rocks, tech equipment, you can program zombies that won't drop headcrabs, you can program grenades that don't roll or beep, ambient sounds, various blast doors, and Hammer which can be used to create more rocks, a different blast door, and the generator.

You can use placeholders for everything else; crowbar pickaxe, ar2 rivet gun, SMG SMG, pistol glock, citizens refugees.

One you have all of that finished you can work on getting music, reskins, voice actors, and gestures done.

yes, but isn't that what I just said?
or are you saying that I can do all those things by myself? because I can't...

Most (maybe all) of those things have specific tutorials written for them. They are things you should at least attempt on your own before asking for help, otherwise you look like you're being lazy. I'm sure you never intended to give that impression, so google away, good luck with the project :)

Like Gibberstein said, experimentation is one of the best solutions, even if it can be daunting an incredibly complex program. Look online for tutorials. It's good because it can help pin point sometimes what skills your best at, what your not best at and best of all for yourself, what areas you really enjoy experimenting and creating with. Commitment and experimenting is a sure way to help get an idea of what to do. Good luck :)

If you get started with something, like a map I'll do the music for you, but I want to see if the project can go anywhere.

i have began development on my mod, but the first level is "broken", because i need new voice actor clips to allow certain areas of the level to open up and allow the player to progress forward. So, until that happens, I can't properly finish the levels :S
HOWEVER, I have uploaded some screenshots of the first level of my mod on my profile, so anyone who possibly may be interested, just look at the screen shots and let me know what you think of them :)

Being able to use proper grammar and spell in a professional request also does wonders to help your image Black. ;)
