I'm a new and unknown Mod Developer out there in the world, currently making a mod for Command and Conquer Generals: Zero Hour, which uses the SAGE engine. Since I'm not having very good luck finding people who are willing to help me, and I have all the free time in the world, I decided to learn how to do these things myself.

Right now, as the forum title said, I'm looking for a free, and hopefully simple-to-use, 3D Modeling program that supports the SAGE engine that several C&C games use. If you know a good program, then please don't mind sharing it's name and a link to a site/page I can download it from in the comment section below or in a private message to myself.

TenaciousXL gave me this link for similar programs. You may be able to find something to your liking there: Freegameslist.weebly.com

To be honest your best bet for this engine is the unsupported totally outdated GMAX or RenX , and you can follow some nice decent tutorials at sleepners stuff for it.
While its out of date and clearly less nice then many other "pay" versions it has the added benifit that you can follow tutorials made specifically for that program and engine.

Blender. It is free and opensource. It exports OBJ, FBX, 3DS, DAE. PLY, and STL. And there are tutorials all over the web.

Sage takes w3d files now lets open up blender and look for the w3d export option "whats that ? its not there ? oh damn..hmm i suppose you can elect to use xsi exporting and hope that it will loadup after you change the document to w3d , so its a possible option though manually editing each exported file may in time become tiresome.. not to mention the skinning in sage is dependent on wwskin which comes bundled in the sdk plugins that work in renx /gmax or 3ds max... no blender option though maybe there is one out there that works.
A user generated Export tool for blender ---> generals which I dont vouch works or even suggest you use is :http://www.drlukac.com/jano/fridge/w3d2.py
