Hi, I'm new to ModDB, but not modding! Thread

Hello all, my name is Mark and I'm 18. Yeah, thats all the personal information I'll give during the current times, lol.

Well, I just wanted you all to know that I'm new to ModDB, and that.. I have a history in gaming/game modding.

I joined the Red Orchestra modification during its SoF2 days and when they/we moved to UT2003, I resigned as Lead Mapper due to the fact I did not have enough time to learn the UnrealEd program, so in which I left.

I am also an administrator for ModsOnline.com, and if you don't know what MO is all about.. it's a modding tutorial site/community. ..its fixed towards mappers, but few things for skinners/modeleres/coders ..if there is any.

But yeah, ..any questions to be asked?

Oh, and as far as modding.. I'm planning to form a mod for either Quake4, FarCry, or HL2. Decisions, decisions...

Welcome to moddb **pats on shoulder**. And of mods to be made, do it for far Cry as ive heard its modding capability will be unriveled. Cant wait

Quake4 is a looong way off, buddy. I doubt we'll see it at E3 this year.
If you want a good new game to look to mod for, I'd definitely recommend STALKER. My favourite feature is that it will have on-demand map loading. Mmmmm, me can see epic RPGs using that engine.

Yeah, I'm thinking of formign a totally different mod idea for Q4. I'm not even going to consider D3 - I heard it'll have the worst modding capability

But yes - FarCry seems good ((and the gfx are amazing)).
Is HL2 going to be any good? ((the mod is going to be a "fast-action shoot-'em-up" fps, btw)) - STALKER.. hrmm.. I don't know man, I heard good things about it but doesn't seem to have a good gaming community going for it..

Perhaps I will go for FarCry.. (( BTW, the 'Playstation Portable' is using that polygon-reducing program thing from Cytek for it's 3D engines... very interesting stuff))

Oh, and ..is FC even going to be released(or delayed) with the whole mess with the unlisenced software some of the employees were using?

No. Far Cry will not be delayed. The FSK only stopped by to interview them, found no sign of pirated software and left. The whole dealie only lasted a few hours.

EDIT: also, I'm really looking foward to STALKER. I think it's gonna be the sleeper hit of the year. Also, if the game gets good community support, with new mods adding, then it could be great, you just need a base of mods to build upon, then more people will get interested.

Nah, i'd go with far cry, It'll be out first, and it's a damn fine engine

Yeah but the specs are farily high (in my opinion) but id get it anyway. Another game to consider is halo. i dont think sdk is out yet but halo is fun

Far cry is a much better engine than halo.

Indeed. Also, Far Cry is very customisable, but personally, I want STALKER!

i'd go with doom 3. From wot i've heard its NOT going to be bad on modders, and its a really nice engine, and lots ya can do with it..

hl2 sux.. really it does.. lol.. after some close examination on some pics, i've noticed it doesnt seem to have much to brag for in graphics.. Also, Valve keeps pushin it.. Dont hold ur breath on hl2..

actullyo dont hold my breath on HL2 ...overrated :/

Quake 4 is due this year but... it will probably be if anything early next year... not that far off... hl 2 is due in a few months and Doom is due this month! bunch of good games!
