I'm going to replay it for the third time (gimme the cash for a better comp :( ) and the game still feels fresh...

...while im fed up with the boring hl2 SP, can't make myself to start the game again.

Anybody has experienced a similar thing? It's weird, hl2 is more complex, i love the physics engine, but d3 is still better in terms of gameplay for me

I thought half-life2 sp seemed too much like resident evil and had a poor storyline

not really much replay value, but i like doom3 a lot, i doesn't make sense but it scared the shit outta me

I played doom3 for 10 mins and got bored im afraid :(

well a bit longer, I did play it past the bit where everything goes tits up

But small dark corridores, shooting things that jump out of no where bores me

I like wide open action like HL2 :/

stalkers the one with sneaking over to chechnya and shit right? that doesnt look scary

HL2 has the better graphics, story, control, everything. I couldn't play through whole Doom 3, too boring, imo.

s.t.a.l.k.e.r. will be the scariest game ever (excluding Silent Hill 3). you'd have to have watched alot of it's trailers/movies

Doom 3 was crap. They just remade an old game with new graphics. Whoo.

Half-Life 2 actually has a very good story attached to it completely original that used physics not because it could, but because it was an integral part of the story and was used in a profound way that's never been done before.

Half-Life 2 > Doom 3, since it was overall the better game, and really delivered on what it set out to do. The long wait paid off with a great game that became an instant classic.

karuto, i want to hear your opinion on s.t.a.l.k.e.r.

The atmosphere and environment seems really well done, and allows for plenty of open-ended gameplay. The engine itself seems pretty interesting, especially with what you might come up with as a modmaker.

I've yet to really see or read a lot about STALKER, although I've read a lot of information about the related tragedy of Chernobyl.

It looks like a fun game, though, so I might just invest some money and buy it when it arrives.

Half-Life 2 had its fair share of scary parts, too, so it's not like it's all fun and games. lol

I've watched a lot of the trailers and movies, and it only seems scary once you get near the end of the zone close to the actual plant. :P

I got Half-Life 2 for Christmas :O!!! I haven't beat it yet, currently I think I'm driving around in the buggy with wheels and shot down 2 gunships thus far...

I can sympathise with people who find it a bit boring. There are a few fun things, the first vehicle was fun for a bit, and gravity gunning sawblades is kinda fun, but the gameplay does get monotonous. But hey, I guess I'm not a game playing person... most games that people like don't have anything more, they're just shooting the same bad guys over and over in a different way. HL2 was good for a few laughs, like when they say 'the such-and-such tower is on full alert!' And you look over and see the tower opening and all these crows flying out, it reminds you of Lord of the Rings or maybe the flying monkeys in Wizard of Oz XD

Doom 3 was interesting enough for me to beat it once, but I'm having a bit of attentiveness trouble the second time round.

Neither of them are that great. HL2 is kind of neat in how it excessively exploits the physics engine that every game has nowadays, but you see the gimmick behind it, and besides... it's always more effective to just shoot them in the head (with the exception of the sawblades). Doom 3 had more atmosphere, but its bad point was the lack of varying environments or gameplay situations.

The storyline is just as backseat as it was in Doom 3... It's just every few levels you get somewhere and they tell you to go somewhere else O_o

To pick up on HL2's storyline, you must oberve. Listen to everything said, look at everything on the walls in someone's lab, especially the newspaper clippings. They just assumed Gordon knew everything that was going on, as they did not know that he was in a slow time warp.

I thought it was great how they didn't mess with Gordon's mute behavior. It seems like you could really pour your own personality into the character, sort of like Mario. It was a fun game in the aspect that you really don't know Gordon's personality or behavior, other than the way you move him about the world. Sure, you can say that about other games, but I feel a lot more satisfied leading around a crowbar-weilding hero rather than some character that just picks up a gun and starts blasting people.

HL2 is not better thatn D3 and both are worse than DX. both games have a rather weak story and the game-flow is horrible (meaning, sequences of maps with one big puzzle but there is no flow, like thrown together but not glued).

both games have good graphics, hl2 stresses on physics, d3 on scariness. hl2 physics is nice the first time but the puzzles are so made that they get boring. you feel like here is a made up puzzle, one solution, no imagination. i'm not through hl2 yet and i'll give the story a chance to prove but i doubt it will.

Deus-Ex > Half-Life2 = Doom3

EDIT: and yeah... hl2 vehicles sux like hell. the only funny one was the crane, the rest is annoying bs.
