Ok I am totally new to the modding world, but I am completely in love with it! I want to make a mod for Halo. I would like to form a team as soon as possible so we can lay everything out nice and organized so we may jump the SDK on release.

As of now my team consists of, well, no one. I can't do much but I am full of ideas and I can write very well. So if we were to make a very in-depth story line, or document then that is where I can come in. I am, however, learning all I can (i.e. Modeling, mapping, programing) I would love to use this project as another learning process and I would hope to get some kick-ass team members that may teach me a good thing or two.

I have a basis and a background story line to back it up. I t takes place in the near future and is a sort of mix between Counter-Strike and Day of Defeat I am really paranoid about some mean person stealling my idea if they think it is good enough so I really try not to blurt it out everywhere, so, if you are interested and would like to know more e-mail me at totally_tonedef@yahoo.com

Also for anyone who teams up with me in this project if you have any ideas or problems with anything you have just as much say as I do!

If you post your idea, no one can claim it as theirs--just point to the forums and say "Ha! Owned your ass!"

As to the project itself, I wish you luck, but I doubt you'll find much. Newbie modders aren't usually well respected as team leaders (not that I am trying to discourage you). Also, combining CS and DoD seems like a completely unoriginal tack, although I haven't seen the full DD so I can't say for sure.

Well, no one has ever stolen one of my awesome ->ORIGINAL<- ideas so i doubt that people would steal something that is described as a mix between counter strike and day of defeat. The last thing we need is another cs clone. No offence, but maybe you should think of something more original.

Totally how about this for an idea! It is plainly obvious that you have no experience making mods. Now being the smart guy that you claim to be wouldn’t it make a whole lot more sense to join an existing mod team and use that as a learning experience as opposed to trying to make your own mod.

Why am I saying this you might ask, well having been involved in modding for over 4 years myself I have found a peculiar train amongst mods and their leaders. Most mods fail because of inexperienced team leads. Also most mods don’t even get past the "MY IDEA ROXORS I NEED A TEAM TO DO EVERYTHING FOR ME" stage because people have started to catch on to the fact that if the team lead does not have some sort of tangible skill to give to the development process than they most likely are nothing more than a over zealous gamer that is by no means ready to deal with the myriad of problems that making a complicated mod, or total conversion takes.

So in conclusion, don’t try to start out by making a mod, start humble, and try and help out another project. This will have a two fold positive effect, firstly if you choose the right project to work on you will not be disappointment, but rather surprised by the amount of information that you learn. Secondly the community will not be presented with another dead end idea, with no future, and will be spared of looking even more so moronic than it already does.

I sincerely hope this helps, and hope that I have not come off as though I am trying to offend you, I’m simply frustrated by the lack of maturity that saturates all aspects of the mod making.

Well it isn't exactly like those two games. What is it is China invaded the U.S. and masacred our military, so, militias were formed to fight back for their freedom. It would be primarily multiplayer so one team would be milita and the other Chinese. I would have several different modes of play, and vehicles.

Perhaps you should address people's concerns about new modleaders as opposed to just dodging the question for an inconsequential one. Do you have any applicable skills? If so, why not join another mod?

Yes I know I am new! I know they say start with a simple game and work up from there! Well I want to start with Halo, sure it may turn out to be crap, but if I keep updating it and fixing and enhancing it could soon become great! I wouldn't consider myself a "team leader" whom ever would have the most experience would be, and I would learn from him. I do have skills, writing and some mapping.

I apretiate everything you all are saying and I understand where you are coming from. I am not doing this for fame and recognition. I am doing this because I love games, and how they work. I love every aspect of a game and respect it.

I would like a team but if one doesn't form oh well, I will join another one...hell maybe they would love to make my mod! Also I wouldn't mind getting a team that has just about as much experience as me in modding and learn as we go, much like being in a band persay. I hope by me coming here a newbie and requesting a team didn't upset or annoy you veterans but hey...I idolize you guys for your work and want to provide the same to people.

I am doing this because I love games, and how they work.

That's good to see, at least. Most people have delusions about what they're getting into and crash and burn because of it.

I try to have realistic expectations.

I think OutCast may well have burned due to the extremely high level of work that I had created to be required for it (if what I said makes any sense). The project was far too large, and as such never recruited any help.
It was a learning experience that hopefully will teach me something for my work with Dh3.

if you have realistic expectations than what the hell are you doing here asking for help. If your not interested in attention than why are you posting, nobody is gona help you or teach you because hardly anybody here has any valuable skill to contribute, if your serious about making mods, go and learn a valuable skill, become relatively good at what ever it is that you want to do, and than go help another mod make something of itself.

umm... this forum is about showing off your ideas and getting people to support you and help the mod... "nobody is gona help you or teach you because hardly anybody here has any valuable skill to contribute" almost everyone here has some kind of skill to contribute...

I like yor Idea (exept for the Chinese part) and would love to help you. I can do models. Although I am making my own mod, I'll see what I can do. BTW do you know what animation programe I would need to help? I don't what Halo uses.

Dec 16 2003 Anchor

Well,
I have to give the kid credit myself. I'm glad to see someone come in so interested and in the right attitude. Atleast he didn't come in saying he's gonna make a mod and sell it to people to download. lol. Good luck with the idea, I guess it'd be fun to play for a while anyways

edit:-------------

Halos SDK's arn't even out as far as I know.... Didn't even hear they were going to release them. But either way, I don't think anyone knows what to use, but best guess as always goes to 3ds or lightwave.

I have a couple people oon my team but still need programers, modelers, mappers, and conceot artists. We changed it from modding Halo to HL2 because we figured that we would have a better chance gaining a team if we picked a game with such a following....plus we love HL and 2 looks niiiiiice! We are still sticking to the primary bases and getting into more detail and expanding here and there. Luckily since it is now HL2 I can do some of the mapping but more help is always nice.

Thanks for the support from all of you respectful people by the way, those other people who like to cut a newbie down because they think they are pwerful are really irritating.

BTW- Halo uses 3ds Max for models and maps.

to bad, a big popular halo mod would be cool!
