Anyone know where I can get Half Life: Source by itself? I bought the regular version of HL2 that came without it.

You can't. Its only available with the steam HL2 packages.

its meant to be a waste of money though, i'm just keeping my fingers crossed for lambda co-op

It's not like the source is so much better than the original, all it has is shiny water and not much else. Just buy the original or wait for the remake of HL called Black Mesa I think.

You can get it outside of Steam, if you buy the HL2 collectors edition. You also get a shirt and a minibook.

But that is also expensive and comes with HL2 and CS:S. He means all by its self, without any other games.

As I understand it, it's HL1 with nice water. So just get the original for five bucks :)

It also came with the Collecters Edition (which i got :))

HL:S is surprisingly fun, new better music, tweaked models and textures it still has the HL feel but there's just a hint of something special added in for a bit of fun.

would that hint be the HUD dissapearing when looking at a bright shader on the floor or the lack of blood from hitting corpses "rigged with ragdoll"?

Maybe I was missing something but when I played HL:S it didn't even include the high definition pack models for HL1. It only had HL2 water effects and "HL2 ragdoll" and I say 'ragdoll' lightly. Other than that there was what looked like OGL lighting which looked weird coming from sources in HL1 maps with no light source and 'shaders' that did nothing other than cause an agonizing glare and overshadow HUD if staring directly into one.

Maybe you could fill us in on the "hint of something special added in for a bit of fun" ^_^

Can't say i've come accross that one about the hud before mate.
The models aren't high poly but they're still a bit better than the original ones, and the maps seem fine to me :|

The fun i was talking about was that they added in some new scenes to the startup on the train and added in some new minor bits to a couple of the maps through out sp.

Black Mesa:Source!!w00t...waiting for it....Anyway,At this present time, it is impossible to get HL:Source by itself...unless you work at Steam or Valve.Maybe you should go to HL:Source site and comment them on this issue.

look down at a shiny floor with a "shader" on it and your hud will mesh in with the overly bright shader,
The models haven't changed so I don't know how they are better :S
and the maps are exactly the same except the lighting adds a much more condence spherical aura of color in areas where the light entity was placed close to a wall or something it is "refracting" off of. I didn't see any new "scenes" or anything but I could be wrong. I beat HL:S and don't remember anything new in particular. Maybe I missed something somewhere but hl1 was better, at least the load time was nonexistent almost between maps where as with HL:S there is a good 20-30 second pause time really taking out that "fluent effect" hl1 gave you in transitioning seamlessly from one map to the next.

I'm sure they'll eventually start selling HL:S by itself eventually.

No one cares about this? Is it so untrue that no one will even pay attention to it or sis you all ot notice? Thisis why the thread was made...

Jan 21 2005 Anchor

they dont sell it by itself there. it just says so, then tells you it comes with the special edition of HL2 when you click the link....and thats not even at steampowered.com....it on the game list in steam. you double click hl:s

Don't get me started.

Just don't bother with Half Life: Source. In my opinion, it sucks. They improve such aspects like water, reflections, smoke, explosions and lighting, but in the long run, there are aspects that killed it. For example, the music cuts off at loading checkpoints. This sucks, because there is a section when you go up an elevator, and the music starts. Immediately after, you hit a loading checkpoint and cuts the song. Mood killer. I didn't enjoy HL:S. Just play the original, you're better off.

You can live without the stupid effect improvements. They didn't change nearly enough to make it worth buying it seperately.
