Girl Gamers Thread

While chatting in MIRC Skitzay brought up a good point

Why is it that girl gamers are treated like objects?
Why is it such a big deal when a girl does play a game?

Ive seen plenty of girls start playing games and then stop as its a joke how many people act like fools because of it. Just thought id get your views on why this occurs in todays world.

A just treat female gamers are any other gamer

and girls usually kick ass at shootem ups

Anyway, I've never ever met or played with a girl gamer who enjoys any genre apart from RPGs. Or, that's if the girls who play FPS and RTS prefer to keep their identity secret.

I have a girlfriend that plays plenty of different games. She likes Final Fantasy, Warcraft 3, Doom 3, Halo, Star Ocean, Morrowind, Zelda, Resident Evil...

Basically, she's the perfect girlfriend for me

Im not saying that everyone here treats girls differently im just saying as a group its much harder for them to fit in as usually some sad dude whos never met a girl will try and put on an act and people will join in. Maybe i just go to some really sad servers

I've seen alot of different girls playing q3. Even thou alot of the time I think they tend to keep their gender secret. There's more female gamers then you'd think.

had a couple of female players too but it's often difficult to know because they don't stay it and especially, i don't ask for it. i don care if it's a male or female i play with... if (s)he's good i'm eager to beat him/her...

but it's true that the most gamers are males. just look at all those (*urks*) tomb raider like games (meaning a heroin with big fat boobies and some big fat sword or gun or whatever)... that's definitly made for attracting male players, not female ones.

People who go "OMG GIRL GAMER OMG!!!!" and act like children probably are.

Becky (sitting right behind me) is a major FPS freak. But nobody knows that. She's known as Wigz on steam... or Misswiggle. they just suspect that she's an annoying fat dude. Then they get thier asses kicked...

Everytime I see someone on the net reveal themselve as a girl people always hit on her. Its kinda funny since she is OVER THE NET.

Guess its hormones or something? but to words? I dunno. Its all in your or their outlook I guess.

ok, to be honest, the reason girl gamers get treated like such objects is cause alot of dudes out there are geeks.. i mean, pure nerds who know they could never ever get any in their life.. period.. There have been times i faked bein a girl in quake 3 just to see what would happen, and it never takes long for someone to hit on me. And im laughin my ass off of cource..

Also, i've seen guys in quake 3 who tell girls whom they dont know at all, never talked or seen before, tell them they are hot and so sexy and such an awesome chick.. And of cource, the girl laughs a bit and soon enough leaves cause you can tell she gets sick of it. When alot of male gamers see a girl in a game they spaz out cause they never get another chance in their lives to speak to something without a penis.

Hey, I'm not much of a geek, and my wife is a very good gamer! I'm sure she can waste all of you at a good FPS game, or even Need for Speed Underground. Man, she memorized all the shortcuts in every level, and has one tricked out Nissan Skyline

I don't really see what's wrong with girls playing video games; they make up the same, if not more of the community than plenty of age groups. There's more girls 18+ playing games than boys 8-18, so maybe you're just not on when they are. I've played on servers where it's all girls except for me, and they totally waste my ass.

just don't let this become a "girls/boys waste others all time" thread... there's not much difference between them, or at last, i never witnessed any difference between male or female players... i owned a lot of them... :lo:

The worst things I've seen is when teenagers internet-date. They live hundreds of kilometers away, and come into your game of Medal of Honour to do all their sexual emotion text. Example:

*me kisses LittleLadyLana back*
*frosty-theaussie has left the server*

Not really a healthy relationship. Its fine if they know each other in real-life, but when you're only 14 and think you have fallen in love with someone you have never met, its not. Even worse if it turns out that the other person isnt who they seem to be

Like a short, fat, bald, middle-aged real estate business man who just went through a divorce with his wife and is going through all these different mood swings and wants to rebound with some kid on a video game!

Or, maybe not...

yeah... that sex stuff i noticed a couple of times too... mostly if people start to write rubbish like mentioned above i get kinda sick... if you want to live out your missing sexial life go to one of those boring date-chats but leave games alone...

Back when Team Fortress Classic was in its prime on the GameArena network, I knew several girl gamers, all were treated with the normal respect that are given to the guy gamers. Even the clan I was in had a girl leader, and a high member who was also a girl. Its just because some guy gamers are desperate nerds, which is why they play games. Not me though.

I know someone on UT2k4 who did that. He kept telling me, "Aren't you sad you're getting killed by a girl?" until he told me that he was a guy after all.

Sometimes, it's just scary that someone appreciates being a girl that much. Really feels like you should question his sexual orientation...
