I think being able to post comments on reviews would be a good idea. Sometimes you read a review and would like to talk about a point the author made or just share your thoughts, on the other side sometimes you'd like to know what others think of it. The character limit could also be expanded I can barely write a good review now and need to cut as much as possible.

I understand the character limit increase (I had a similar issue on a few reviews), but I imagine comments might not turn out like they are intended; it would essentially just relegate reviews into being overly long comments.

This is why we made the agree or disagree buttons. It is the simplest reply.

You mean "troll-rate" buttons. They don't work as intended at all... or rather said except trolls and raging fanboys nobody uses them.

Wow that is really wrong, sorry but people do use it correctly.

This might be your view but it doesn't line up with reality. Troll-rating is a common problem with reviews or other articles. Say something that is true and you've got troll-raters down-voting your stuff. It goes that far that people stop voicing their opinion as they get anyways troll-rated because the trolls are backed up by you but not the honest members (and you see this on the massive increase of uninformative one-liner fanboy reviews while elaborate reviews that are informative vanish).

Would be best to totally remove the voting functionality (as this way the troll-rating is prevented) leaving in a report button to deal with reviews or articles breaking rules. The way the current system is it just encourages trolling while discouraging writing worthwhile reviews.

I agree to both of you. It is used correctly, but it is also abused severly by "Trolls" ..

Moddb.com <<<<<---- Quite an obvious example.

Its not a troll rating, its just everyone can vote how he wants and thinks its good that the view of any other people does not match with yours should be obvious. @Dragonlord lets take your Skyrim review, everyones praising it and the hype around it is huge, what do you expect when you who actually knows what you talk about, tells the fanboys how flawed it is?

@Henley you got more experience with the comments, if you think its better without then so be it. Can you may consider a character limit increase? IMO +100- 200 would be good to not let out an aspect. A game is huge, Sound Gameplay Visuals Story etc. I can barely cover them up and need to cut which drastically lowers the quality of the review. Its also a pain to read when every 3rd word is shortcuted.

@Icedeknight wtf does this have to do with that S&P Article? Do we have to talk everywhere about this crap! That said I heavily dislike the comment karma.

It doesn't have to do about it directly, but something this important should be voiced by many opinions, not just one. The opinions of these type of articles matter the most since they offer intelligent discussion among modders, the people that down-vote have their head up their ass because they can't stand someone disagreeing with them. I agree that some are out of bounds but most are reasonable. I posted it because there are clear and prime examples of it going on within the article.

We used to have a system where you could write as many words as you wanted, guess what no one used it.

The review system works for what it does. If you wanted to make something more indepth, make a group and post it as an article instead. Personally I'd recommend doing this as an alternative.

The karma system is a huge problem definitely though, I've never liked it, its always come across as more how to gauge popular opinion more than anything, and to silence anyone that doesn't agree with popular opinion by burying their posts. Tbh, we should chuck it because when you get games like Skyrim which attract so much hatred and attention, that the karma system just flat out falls on its ass. Simply, it does nothing to contribute to arguments and only makes things much worse.

Well since I don't plan to abandon moddb there's at least me and probably some others around now that would like to write more. No way to convince you?
