In High Albedo, you had 2 options to move between solar systems: The jumpdrive and the jumphole. The same will be true in Outlier. Jumpdrives allow for fast travel between distant systems, but consume large amounts of fuel and may damage your craft**
This is the jumphole as it appeared in High Albedo (lower right corner).
In High Albedo, the jumpholes resized themselves and you had to fly close to the center to actually jump. Now, this is the jumphole as it (currently) appears in Outlier.
It is done using a particle effect and it slowly changes shape and size as particles of various life spans are emitted. Nothing too special, but a nice effect. Like in High Albedo, you'll need to get very close to the center to actually jump. And, since it is a 3D volume of particles, it looks pretty cool flying into one.
**Jumpdrives damage shields when jumping and if there are no shields left that damage is passed to the hull. In addition, it is possible (but rare) to jump inside a solid object which will ruin your day.
